I just finished notching my rear end and relocating shocks (as well as installing new ones). I currently have 3" drop springs and 2" blocks out back. I'd like to go to 5" springs, but do you think I'd be able to tow my boat with about 300-400 lb tongue weight?

I really don't think that it would ride all that well. 5" springs don't have to much of a payload rating. I had 5" drops on one of mine and I couldn't haul to much in it. Towing a boat with a 7" drop (my own opinion) would not be to stable.

My 68 is dropped approx 7" in the rear. I tow an 18ft car hauler but I have bags to level the rear after it's loaded. I think you would be pushing it w/a 7" static drop.

This is one that's readily available. I have a few more w/the trailer hooked up & I'm pulling a swb rolling chassis.... I'll try & find them on my drive & post them as well.

My buddy tows his 1994 Chevy show truck with his 1996 Ext Cab Silverado that has a 5/7 static drop. Helper bags in the rear are the key

hmmm looks like maybe I should shy away then, or bag the back of it....if i bagged the back and ran shrader valves, would ride height be lower, and be able to tow a load?

You could definitely tow a load. The ride height would depend on the combination of parts used.

Why not? Using rear helper bags on a static drop is very common. I may go that route if I tow with my '67 SWB once it is done

Im going with a 5-1/2" drop (springs and blocks) on mine and if you guys suggest "helper" bags with that could you point me in the direction of a vendor and/or give me some ideas? I have zero experience with air/bags.
