ok another dumb question

ok i have listened to you all talk about swapping front cross memebers..which is the way i want to go..i think in the long run,,parts will be easier to find to..but any way the question i got is this,,i got a freind who was going to redo a 59 gmc,,but like all his other projects,,has lost interest after stripping it to the frame..would be a good truck to redo but any way,,he got a van for free,,and listend to me and got the rear end and the complet front cross member...will a late 70 van cross memebr work..is it the same as the pickups..i hope so,i can get it all for free,,well not the pickup,,but i think thats next on the list this summer if things go right...just need to know if the cross memebr will work..

Re: ok another dumb question

Why not grab the spindles and center link off the van and bolt to yoir existing cross member? Arent the spindles the same as the trucks? And someone told me a long time ago the center link will work with are trucks when converted to discs. That the van center link has the right bends and right taper for the tie rod ends. Corect me if I am wrong.

Re: ok another dumb question

You might also check on the upper contol arms and the tie rods. The lower control arms are different.

I believe the sway bar is different.
