Anyone have prints or plans to make your own c notch? Id like to make some for my truck but dont know where to start. I thought about buying a set & cloning myself a set at work & reselling them but thats just a pain...

What is a C notch?

That is a notch you cut in the frame above the rear axle so it will sit lower.

Corn, I don't have any plans but here is what they did with mine. It should be very easy to duplicate even though your frame is different.

I just used a good old piece of schedule 40 pipe. If you pull the springs and set the frame down on the axle, you will know where to center the cutout.

Looks like 6" to me. Will the frame have to be all braced up when you cut & weld? Or just cut it & weld it in with the wheels on the ground?...

Support the frame in front & behind the area being cut (& welded on) or it will tweak on you.

It would be wise to weld a boxing plate in before cutting for insurance/extra strength. Then, 'c' the outside of the rail & the new boxing plate. Grind the excess material off from the cut. Put the 6" pipe in & weld it all up.

Hmmm, I was thinking that you would weld the tube all in & then cut out the part you want gone. Wouldnt that keep it all aligned better while you install it?

My thoughts exactly. Weld in the tube, weld on the boxing plate, cut the two semi-circles out. Makes sense in my head at least...

It can be done both ways. As you can see from the pics here Roger at Stoked Out prefers to box the frame first to prevent any chance of it flexing. Once it is welded in solid you can weld the section of pipe in on both ends.

I snatched a piece of 6" tube from work yesterday. Its 1/4" wall & about 10" long. Now I gotta get the plates made & the tube cut.

Anyone have any suggestions as to where to look for some of this locally? Generally speaking that is. What type of places would have small pieces for purchase or scrap? Everything I find is in 20' lengths. Don't think I need that much...

Most steel yards will have 'drop' steel or scrap pieces that they sell for less than the price of a full piece but it will be more $$ per pound vs. buying bulk.

I purchased some a few years ago from a local steel dealer. He cut the length I needed off of a 20' section ... sold it to me by the pound.

This is probably a dumb question, but what do you use to cut the "C" shape in the frame? I only have cutting wheels and don't see how you could do it via that method. Thanks!

Plasma if you're rich. If you're like me, reciprocating saw or jigsaw.

I used what is called a speedy cut. It is a 7" "thin" cut off blade for a small grinder. It is thin so it kind of bends when making a circle. You have to hang on and use gloves-If not careful they will eat you.
I cut the 1/2 circle out of the side of the frame slid my pipe in and fit it up then welded it. Then I went back and cut out the bottom of the frame. Stayed nice and straight

I'll warn against using a zipcut to cut an arc like that.Those discs are not meant to bend.When one of them flies apart it happens real fast.
A young kid around here was killed by one last year attempting a similar task.The disc exploded and a piece of it pierced his heart.
If you don't have access to a plasma or oxy/acet torch,a jigsaw will work fine.
