tundra style roll-down rear window?

ive googled it and am not having any luck with finding any kind of roll down rear window kit similar to what the tundra has. i think that would be slick.

if anyone knows of a kit of any kind that allows this to happen, please let me know. i dont wanna have to engineer my own system (seals, tracks, trim, window shape, etc) that would be a NIGHTMARE.

and hacking up the cab isnt a big deal as i am already stretching my cab like the legroom truck (as long as the hacking ends up looking like its supposed to be there.. ya know how it goes)

help me please.

i have seen quick release windows that pop out completely but you are venturing into uncharted water.

you could try gutting the electrics and such out of a 73+ burban/blazer tail gate.

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

i did think about that, or maybe out of a big GM wagon or blazer for that matter, could maybe just section the whole thing in... hmmm dunno it might make it look like its sitting too far into the cab ill have to look at some burbs/blazers/wagons. unless theres a kit that makes the window end up more flush that would pry be the most simple way to go about it im sure...

maybe i could get super lucky and find a wrecked tundra and cut that out and section it in!! that would definitely be about as flush as it could get! buut.. its got the wrong window shape... (yea ill keep dreaming)

They used to make a kit back in the 80's mini-truck craze. I haven't seen anything like it in years.

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

Yeah, this topic has come up a few times at the forum, I started one a year or two ago, but it's gone way down on my priority list with the drivetrain swap still going on.

Last time around, people mentioned a kit but it wasn't being made anymore from what I gather. The website for the manuf'er was down. There were a lot of myths about a mystical truck or three that people had seen at shows with this setup, but nobody could provide more info. It would be a cool kit to make some $$$ off of if someone could come up with it.

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

That must be the one I was thinking about. It was a power window kit that allowed the glass to lower inside of the back cab panel. I'm sure that it required the relocation of the fuel tank. I had a brochure for that at one time or it might have been in one of the catalogs. Maybe I can find it.

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

I have all the parts and have had the glass cut, drilled, and tempered to make my rear window on my 68 Chevy truck able to "POP OUT" on the bottom, like the side windows on an Astro van. I have a 3" chopped cab and the plans are to make this work for fresh air flow when driving.

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

They are out there, a friend of mine had an electric back window in his 90 454Ss pickup, it was very cool, I can't remember where he got it, maybe one of those trick part suppliers that advertise in the truckin mags.

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

The Ford Explorer sportback/SportTrac/whatever pickup thing has a rear 25/50/25 window with the 50% middle section that rolls down. It might actually be more like 22/56/22, but you get the idea.

Ther inherent problem is you need a shelf to catch water, then a tube to drain that water. I'm sure this exists on the Explorer vehicle, but ...

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

i see.. well at any rate i guess it will be a while before that can happen anyway. thought about the pop out minivan style window a well, that would be very functional, but i thought it would be fun just to take it a step further.

thanks for the help guys!

That would be the Honda Del Sol 2-seater. But, that was a really tiny car, and I doubt the back window would be anywhere near large enough.

The electric sliding rear window offered by Ford on the fullsize pickups is the Powrslider, manufactured by C.R. Laurence.

Linky...http://www.crlaurence.com/ProductPag...D=331&Path=331

These may be distributed by one of the board members. They are a high-quality unit, but not cheap. I know that at least ONE of the board members has this installed in his truck. I've seen pics of it on this board.

This will not work like the Toyota style. It is simply an electric slider similar to the standard 3-pc sliders we all are familiar with.

Good luck.

Our 1999 Chevy Venture has electric pop out rear windows as well.

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

i was thinking that you could just strip the parts that make it go up and down,,then attach it to a factory window.....would take a good fabricator to get it right,,but it could be done...

Re: tundra style roll-down rear window?

it seems that if you had the moving parts.. you could take the seals as well, get them to sit in the cab, attach the tracks.. MAN it doesnt sound so bad, but then you realize it sucks when theres no back of the cab for like 3 years! lol.

i bet tho if you could just section in a whole unit that uses a window thats bigger, and just make the window opening smaller, or just section out lengths of the opening until it fits our windows.. maybe that would work.

this is getting exciting.

and lol you could pry use a del sol window on a 67!

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a way to change the shape of the rear window on our trucks and make it look right.

The roll down would be cool. I have an electric rear window but it goes side to side. http://www.crlaurence.com/ProductPag...1.html?Origin=
