Any pics of instument panels w/ aftermarket guages

Does anybody have any pics of a instrument panel they may have put aftermarket guages in like auto meter.I like the 2 5/8 size but i think it may look funny if i nount them on the outside may need to do some cutting. Or will the2 1/16 size fit in the stock location and be covered up the panels like the originals.

Re: Any pics of instument panels w/ aftermarket guages

not sure what years are interested in , but I will send some of mine. Note the knob just above the speedometer head, they called this a speed minder,I guess they were real rare, I just had to have one. where ever you set the dial if and when the speedo needle hits it, it sounds a warning..just could resist.

No sir, have no info on the seats, i think i pulled the picture from cardomain.com or something. They seem to be just aftermarket buckets out of JC Whitney or summit, tho I have no idea truthfully.

Re: Any pics of instument panels w/ aftermarket guages

I enjoy the pics of the autometer gauges, but one day I would like to see what they look like installed from a rear shot. That way I could know how their suppose to look when they are completed. Please whoever does the next gauge installation maybe you could snap a couple of shots of the rear of the installation after it's complete.

84 400: The wiring isn't hard at all, but it's very tedious/time consuming. The hardest part was tracing each wire & finding out what it was for.....and after I spent all that time doing that, I realized that had already been done for me here: http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...s_recessed.htm

Re: Any pics of instument panels w/ aftermarket guages

The wiring is pretty simple. The wires are all ran for the stock gauges. All you have to do is get an ohm meter to test which wires are which if you don't have access to a wiring diagram. Then you just hook up the wires to the sending units from the plug outside the firewall to corresponding wires in the dash. There should also be wires in the stock harness for the lights as well. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. Alex

Re: Any pics of instument panels w/ aftermarket guages

I was talking about the other side of the gauges. The side facing the fire wall when the dash is closed up. I'd like to know what it takes to massage all the gauges into place. 84 400 I think this theme would go great in your truck with the 400sbc. If I could I would install them in every truck I own.

Re: Any pics of instument panels w/ aftermarket guages

Oh, I got ya...sorry about that.

When I installed mine into the dash, I had to install the two left ones seperately, with them installed in the bezel prior, the bezel could not be installed in the truck...there was interference. It was not a big deal, just a lot of reaching and ackward arm positions.

Re: Any pics of instument panels w/ aftermarket guages

Bigblock, your painless link in your attachment does not work. Is this a harness attachment that plugs into your factory instrument cluster plug and then onto your autometer guages???? I have installed a painless 18 circuit kit in my blazer and am very disappointed with the factory guages. I would like to find something that I could just plug into the cluster plug and have labeled seperate wires to the autometer guages(maybe wishfull thinking).........jesse

The Painless kit comes pre-assembled..you just have to follow their diagram to hook up your gauges properly. It is pretty easy, and I even hate electrical work. The only thing you have to do is put connectors on your wiring kit and gauges...I used male/female insulated connectors...that way I can easily remove one, two, or all of the gauges if I choose to without having to remove the entire wiring harness. I also have the Painless 18 curcuit 73-87 wiring harness.

Thanks for the heads up on the link, I will fix that this evening.

IIRC, there was no plug...but if there was, then yes, I cut it off and wired each gauge individually, matching the truck harness to the gauge harness.
