4L80-E Trans Options - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Discussion on another thread is making me wonder if vendors have come up with a reasonable solution to using a 4L80-E Trans in a non computer controlled towing or H/D vehicle?

Unreasonable options that I currently know of include:

Using a TH400 instead (doesn't offer overdrive or lock-up converter)

Add a Gear Vendors Overdrive to a TH400 (too expensive and you still don't get a lock-up converter)

Installing a full manual valve body in it. (defeats the purpose of "automatic". Nice when you want it but gets tiresome after the 1st 15 minutes of driving)

Buying an aftermarket electronic controller (Too expensive. Think they run $500 to $1300. Might as well pay to have a TH700 beefed up)

Any better ones out there?
