galled a-arm stud...need to fix
So after getting my front apart, I noticed one of the studs that hold the upper control arm shaft in place is a little galled at the end, approx. 2-3 threads in from the end, i tried a couple new nuts, but that one place, just has too much material in the stud thread valley. I'm glad it's at the end, or REAL close. What do you guys do to remedy this? I could, buy a tap and die set, but I am not sure if there is even enough room to get it started, although a nut will screw on about 1.5 complete turns..
or grind the outermost threads just beyond the galled area? Let me know, I am finally getting my control arms back tomorrow, and plan on an all nighter to get her back together. thx all. |

if it doesn't work, I am pretty sure those studs are replaceable.

Re: galled a-arm stud...need to fix
couple thing's to try,,,what everyone else has said so far,,,if that don't work and you have threads to work with very carefully with a file round of the first couple threads till it's smooth,,take a very small file like already been said and very slowly start 3 or 4 threads down and work your way up toward end of remaining threads,,,then wd-40 stud good,,start nut,,if going hard do not force,,just maybe 1/4 turn at time, back off,,blow off with air good, keep working it....
