Does Anyone Know what the Sheild that Bolts on to the Torque Converter Aluminum Cover looks like? My 4x4 turbo 400 Aluminum Torque Converter Cover Has to Bolt Holes On it....I was told that a shield bolts to it. Does anyone know what it looks like? Also Is anyone Running a 400 mated to a 205 TC? Also are you running a brace in between since it is longer?

Re: Does anyone know?
Originally, there was a plastic version and an aluminum version. The aluminum version came on the "K" case transmission, which were a heavier duty case for 4wds. I don't believe they introduced the "K" case until the mid to late 70's. The have a large "K" cast on the top of the transmission case.
You can buy chrome replacements at places like Summit

Re: Does anyone know?
the heavy cast aluminum covers that i have seen did not have a shield but they had support rods that went from the cover to the oil pan or motor mounts.

Re: Does anyone know?
May or may not be. Posi was optional.
For future reference, you should probably start your own thread rather than tacking your question on to another. You'll get better response and some guys get a little bent if you "highjack" their thread.

Re: Does anyone know?
I believe the support rods were for the NP203. I don't know if they bolted up to the NP205. I also don't know if they put the TH400 in trucks with the support rods, but I blieve the bolted in where the transmission case bolts to the engine block.
You might want to ask over on CK5.com or Pirate4x4.com. I got an aluminum flywheel/torque converter cover from a 4x4 shop/junk yard in my area along with a "K" case for my '69. My neighbor gave me one of the support rods, but I never installed it. I did a google image search for "flywheel cover" and these two came up (hope they work):

Re: Does anyone know?
Those two bosses that are drilled and tapped on the bottom are where the rods get bolted to, and head up to the motor mounts. Not sure of the lenght or bends as that is as far as I got. Just got my 400 and ended up with 2 alum. flywheel covers. I'm thinking rod ends and threaded rod to see how it configures. I don't which bolt it goes to on the moter mount, but I think I'll pick the easiest one.
I have a 7 qt. pan so that might be another can of worms in itself. J. If you called a junkyard I doubt they would have it by any name, but stanger things have happened. I've been looking for 3 years, and they don't bolt to a TH350, not enough holes and in the wrong location. Don't ask me how I know
