Does anybody have a Blazer gas tank conversion on thier truck? i was gonna get one but was told that they are highly visable from the sides and that I should get one thats aluminum because they are flatter and not visable. The only problem is that the aluminum tank kits that I've seen are all about $500. Anybody have suggestions or pics? thanks

well, there was a guy on here that had used an S10 tank and was supposed to get a FAQ written up about it, but I'm still waiting.

Don't remember the board member who did it, but I want to do it if possible.

I have the poly Blazer tank and it does hang down more than I would like, however I got it when I bought the truck. If I had to do it again, I would get something from EFabman.

Don't you mean Fuel Cell Guy? I've actually purchased stuff from both. I for sure like fuel cells better than the Blazer tanks. I'm sure they work fine, but I don't care for the look either.

Noone has ever told me my tank was ugly. It's the big one 31 gallon. Most people you have to point it out to them where it is located.

To me it doesn't show anyworse than if you had the spare under there. Mine does not have the bumper on yet, but the bumper will probably cover most of it when I do get it back on.

people don't know anything about what's under a car, so nobody says anything. i notice it on occasion when i see the shiny straps through the wheel well.

not to hijack this thread ,but does anybody have pics of the blazer tank installed on a lowered truck almost all the pics i have seen have been on stock or close to stock height trucks. The way the tank hangs it looks like if you went down a sloped driveway it would scrape. and any pics from the side lower view. thanks

I had a friend years ago, that had a Blazer tank in his 72 Short StepSide truck. It was lowered alot. I'm not sure of the lowering numbers but. The bottom of the frame, right underneath the cab was 6-1/2 inches from the pavement.
One night pulling into a Carwash (fairly decent incline). We drung the Blazer tank and damaged the back edge pretty good. He was always worried about it dragging again after that point.
Also...
From the many I've seen installed. It's not real hideous to see. But, It is a matter of:
Do you want to be able to see it or not?
I'm putting a custom built tank in mine. I plan on lowering my truck. But in a Stock or close to stock height truck, I wouldn't worry abit about a Blazer tank. It's a stock piece, So it looks completely stock when noticed, as if it were suppose to be there.
So, for under $250.00 you can have a stock appearing fuel tank that is noticable from behind the truck. Or for $350.00 to $600.00 you can have a completely hidden tank.
It's all personal preference...
Ok, Sorry that was so long... there is my opinion for the day...

thats a good point, my truck will be lowered 6'' in the back and clearance was another one of my concerns. maybe an aluminum tank will cure all of my problems!

it will depend on how much fuel you want to hold. You can have a smaller 15 gallon tank made and save some clearance. I have a poly tank kit but wish I went the aluminim route, they just appear more solid and custom to me. Anyone want to buy a new poly kit? PM me if so...

Here's a pic of no bimper and no bed, these tanks require you to trim away some of the cross sill so mine it sitting to far forward in the pic.

The aluminum tanks don't hang down as far, they are slanted on the bottom rear for even more clearance, they are not as tall above the frame so no cutting the bottom of the bed, there are no straps, and they are aluminum/cool.

anyone have pics on how they mounted the filler thru the floor? id take pic of my fuel cell setup but two cold to run out to the garage at the moment. my problem is that the bottom of the fuel cell is about 5 inches from the ground cause i have a 5/6 drop. i cant raise the fuel cell up because its already hitting the floor. any suggestions? would it be best to just move into the bed??

I felt the same way I Had a large blazer tank and it sat too low for me. I understand there are 2 sizes. I am currently putting in a jeep tank in my 64. It is only 15 gal but I think it is going to look a lot better. i will post pics when done.

Is there a specific reason not to use the saddle style tanks?

I have spots for them, the PO removed them for some reason, is it a safety issue?

I would love to pull the tank from the cab.....

The Blazer style tank kit from LMC for my truck is $199 plus shipping. It measures 13" tall, making the bottom of it about 4"-5" below the rear bumper (if I don't take a Sawzall to the bed's cross member). I don't plan on lowering mine any, but that's still a little further down than I'd planned. Painting it black is a great way to make it less conspicuous.

I'm going to chew on this for another week or so before ordering anything.
