manual trans cross member?

I need to know if the manual trans cross members are the same for three and four speeds?
I've found a x member in a 67 3/4 ton I6 four speed(granny) and want to know if it will work with my V8 bell-housing.I was told that the three speed trucks didn't use a x member but had plates that bolted between the frame and the bell-housing.

thanks

Re: manual trans cross member?

The cross member is the same but the three speed bellhousing pilot hole is smaller than 4 speed one.

Re: manual trans cross member?

The crossmember is the same for 3 or 4 spd....if they are both a 6cyl, or both a sb v8, or both a BB v8! There are 3 different crossmembers, & they are all placed differently (frame location) depending on the engine. As far as the bell....the CENTER HOLE SIZE is a yr specific deal. 67 + older are a 4 11/16 " hole(does not matter 3 or 4 spd), wheras the 68 up are a 5 1/8" hole(again 3 or 4 spd does not matter)......
