Sound Dampening Material - raammat - FatMat - DynaMat

How much is required to cover in a single layer the entire cab. From under rear window to top of firewall and inside doors?

Will 50 sq/ft do it? Or will it require more?

Going to order this week and was wondering if the guys that have already done it could help me out. Don't want to order too much ... but on the same hand don't want to order too little.

Thanks guys.

You can't order too much because you can use it for a lot of different things. My "guess" is 60 sqft, but I haven't measured all of it. I am getting 100' just because and will double up on the floor, then I might do my headliner if I have enough.

Re: Sound Dampening Material - raammat - FatMat - DynaMat

This is a dumb question but has any one used *****ithane (SP?) for sound control? I have a large roll (250sq') left from doing my roof last summer and boy is it sticky on one side. The only thing is that it does not have foil backing on the one side but I do not see that as being a real big deal when I have it for free. What do you all think? I might try a small area and see how it acts before doing the whole thing.

Re: Sound Dampening Material - raammat - FatMat - DynaMat

Assuming the sound reduction performance is about equal with Dynamat, Looks like $99.00 for 100 sq feet of FATMAT at Sounddeadener.com is the best option to me.

Agree that a "test case" is prudent but more than the dB reduction, I'd be concerned with how the glue will act when the product gets hot. On the roof, there's nails to hold things from "creeping". If it won't slide down on you when it get's hot this summer, I'd go for it.

Re: Sound Dampening Material - raammat - FatMat - DynaMat

I remember seeing a website, where some guy did some in depth testing of multiple brands (dynamat, fatmat, and a couple others), comparing Cost and effectiveness. cant remeber if the link was posted here, or on my camaro forum.

I'll see if i can find it.

EDIT--->

Found it. it was right here on this site.

I bought a bulk pack of Dynamat extreme. One pack did both doors, firewall and the floor ONLY to the seat line.

Re: Sound Dampening Material - raammat - FatMat - DynaMat

Thought I might as well test a few areas of my project cab and see how it does. Heat will only make it stick more and to install it I used a small tortch and just warmed it and stuck it down. I hope it does not need to come out!

Re: Sound Dampening Material - raammat - FatMat - DynaMat

Rokcrln my only concern with what you are using would be smell when it gets the heat of the summer. Would it release any noxious fumes in an enclosed area (unlike when used on your roof) You might call the tech help at the makers of the material to ask.

Everyone needs to take the time to read the article that has been posted 2-3 times in this thread. DO NOT use roofing material unless you want it to fail. Failure can mean that it actually melts inside your interior and ruins your carpet. READ THIS

Cmon Shane,
Who better to give you grief than the guy that has had an entire front suspension rebuild, new dropped spindles and disks, new power steering, a Gennie shifter, and new Flaming River column, all sitting in the garage for over a year collecting dust

Great Article. Covers lots of territory. Most everything EXCEPT the sound deadening properties of the materials being tested.

Prior to reading, I was FATMAT bound because of its low cost per sq foot, and low cost per pound. Now after reading about its adhesion problems, I'm thinking of using the FATMAT (or Peel and Seal if it's lots cheaper) only for the horizontal surfaces, and use the recommended RAAMmat BXT with its better adhesion properties for the vertical and overhead areas.

Great read.

Thx again for the link
