Column??/Tranny?? problem...I guess - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok, I have a little problem that I don't understand yet. I can drive the truck around all day and have no problem and it doesn't do this every time I put it into park. But the last few times it has been REALLY hard to put into park and you can kinda tell that the stopping/lock up point is in the column. It goes through all the other gears fine but whenever I back it up in the driveway and try to put it in park and it is just a bi*&^.
Any help would be great guys. Thanks.

Remove shift lever and spray WD-40 in hole and then under hood spray where the lever comes out of column. Should free it up.

Some of the other guys on her that have a better knowledge of these trucks might have a different idea but. I had a problem like this in a monte carlo it was in the tranny. I know you dont want to here that sorry. A quick way to check is to BLOCK YOUR TRUCK WELLThen unhock your linkage right at the tranny and shift it through the gears you will know right then tranny or truck atleast. odds are it is the column. They like to bind and are generally a poor design.

i have a turbo 350 and when i get in it to go to work in the am i have to wait till it warms up before the tranny will go in gear ? then sometimes it will go bout 100' and stalls again,just like it was in neutral. any one else have this problem w/turbo 350's?

Front pump is worn. Time for a rebuild.

it has done that since it was rebuilt. does that mean they put a bad pump in @ the tranny shop?

Have you taken it back to them? How long since rebuild?

I woulda gone straight back to the rebuilder.
Double check the fluid and call your shop. (you DO know to check the tranny fluid with the engein running, up to oporating temp, on level ground, and just after going through all the gears, right?)
