I bought mine here: http://www.a1electric.com/

I think the price was either $239 or $269 and they just bolt in place of your stock regulators (with the exception of running the wires through your door jambs). Takes a little time to run the wiring for the switches. I mounted my switches over the stock hole in the door panel for the window crank. Covered it perfect, can't even tell there was a hole there.

i did the same thing as pont. they couldnt have made it easier boltin right up to your stock regulator holes. but i think he bought a different switch than me cuz mine wouldnt fit in the stock crank hole. i went ahead and cut another one a little closer to the armrest, and im plannin on reupolstering my interior so the old hole will be covered someday
Pont- how long have you had them in? ive had mine for a little over a year and my passenger side motor seems to be slowing down

gabet40, I have had mine in for about 1 1/2 years and I have the same thing happening with my passenger window. It seems to be slowing down or at least not working as fast as the drivers side. I was thinking that I need to pull it apart to re-grease the channel or see if it was binding somewhere. After hearing that yours is doing it also, now I'm thinking that there must be some manufacturing flaw with the RH motor on these regulators because my passenger side gets used alot less than my drivers side. Hmmmm, now you've got me thinking.................

I'm glad you said something as well. I will be contacting them to see what gives and what they are willing to do. Thanks for mentioning that, I figured it was just me!

I bought the Speciality Power Windows. You do have to drill a couple of holes and remove the window stop but the are very high quality and have a life time warrenty.

i called yesterday and the tech guy said that the regulators/motors have a lifetime warranty. so he said if i take it off and send it back to them theyll send a new one at no charge. he said to take a voltage meter to it first though to eliminate the possibility that it might be a wiring problem, but with all these different cases, im pretty sure its the motor.
so once it cools off a little here in cali and i dont need to be rollin the window down, ill take it off and send it back in for a new one

I had the same thing happen to mine, the passenger window would hardly work, while the driver side was really fast. I took the switch out, and it was starting to rust inside. I wd-40 the switch and both windows operated the same. I beleive the current runs through the switch, so basically there was just a bunch of resistance in the switch - I would try this first.

I have an 85 Olds Cutlass Supreme that has power wing windows in the back doors. They look strange opening and closing by themselves.

Why you guys spend all that money for a power window kit is beyond me. THe belt drive mechanisms from newer GM cars work teriffic and use GM switches. HTey practically give the motors away at the junk yards. Below is a picture of a motor shown in the position it occupies in teh door, it pushes on the lower window channel, after you remove the gear from the old regulator.

TERRYP did you remove the drive band and straiten the chanel that the band goes in ,becouse it was designed for a curved glass and ours is flat?
I have done this ,just never gotten to install it yet.
A word of advice to everyone wanting to do anything to thier glasses, if your chanels and felts are not in great shape you will have less than satifactory results no matter what else you do to your windows.

Hey TERRYP and chevyman, how about doing a step-by-step how-to on this window retrofit? And what year GM regulators apply here? I'm sure there are many others here on the board that would be interested like me. And I will readily admit that I am mechanically challenged, especially concerning these windows.

This seems to come up a lot here on the board, it would be nice to have some really good reference material on the subject. I would be willing to help write it up if I had some info to go on.

I have the same kit as you guys and the passenger does go slower. I'll have to check it too. Thanks for starting the thread. Someday I'll actually finish the new armrests and get the switches mounted. ha! I do love this kit though. So easy to install(with the exception of running the wires). Jeff.

Just out of curiosity, since everyone keeps pointing to the passenger side and saying the motor is slow, I have a question. Do these window kits use different motors for driver's and passenger sides? If it is the same motor on both sides, then I would lean towards thinking it could be a wiring problem. It would be an awfully strange coincedence that only the pass. side motor would be a problem if both sides use the same motor.

Question

I have a 68 chevy with, i think, ruined regulators, they come out of the panel bent. They are also stripped. My brother has a totaled 88 Chevy pickup with power windows that I can have parts off of. TerryP, or anyone else, is this a simple, cheap mod? If you know good directions and steps for installation please share them. Thanks

well i took off my panel and all and when i started playing with the wires in the dor jam they popped a fuse. so one of em must be worn and was grounding out so i readjusted those so they arent grounding out, made sure i was gettin 12 volts, which i was, double checked the connection to the motor and put it back together.
after all that playing with it, it DID go up a little faster, but still not up to speed with my drivers. but i reccommend taking it apart and checkin everything, cuz it made a little difference with mine. then lets see where were at

The window controls I used came from a olds 88 around 86 model, as far as showing the prodject I haven't completed it so I can't give the complete final info, but I see no problems at all around the corner everything has checked out so far.
The regulator you are looking for is the ones with the nylon band that slides in the track to raise and lower the window. It needs to be mounted to thebotom track that attaches to the window pretty close to the center of the window and the motor and bottom of the unit mounted to the door firmly. The glass rides up and down in the original track
WHEN i GET MINE MOUNTED AND WORKING i WILL POST SOME PICS

Chevyman 68, you'll fimnd that the GM belt drive motors work best when the lifting point is surprisingly far back from the center of the window. I discovered this by trial and error on a few trucks. These devices can be used without the regulator pantographs if the lift point is good, but getting your windows to slide nicely with the stock pantographs works the smoothest. I'm gone for the next week. I'll post other pictures, especially my 68 when I get back.
Here is a picture of my 66 with the motor installed. Note the lift point!
