Rear spring removal problem

I was trying to remove my rear coil & the through bolt on the bottom broke at the head(under trailing arm),looks like it was cracked to start with. Before I started I soaked it with PB Blaster all day but it is major rust welded in the trailing arm.I tried heat & more Blaster with a punch, even tried to use weight of the truck and a floor jack to press it out but no go.Any suggestions before I mess it up?

Re: Rear spring removal problem

they're a real pain// i've taken the trailing arms off, a good idea to change the front bushings while you're working on them, and have had to use very high heat and a VERY large hammer and punch to break them free

Re: Rear spring removal problem

I ended up using a air hammer to get my bolts out.

Re: Rear spring removal problem

call your local repair shop and ask them if they have a press. If they do ask them if you can bring the arm down and have them push it out. I had this done and I think it cost me $5. that was less than the cost of the two cans of blaster I wasted on it......

Re: Rear spring removal problem

I had the exact same problem on my '68. I tried everything but in the end only one thing worked. I heated what was left of the bolt up until it was glowing red and then poured water on it. Nada. I then heated it up red again and poured beer on it and it made this God awful noise and let loose and fell out. I don't think the beer had anything to do with it b.t.w. I was just lazy and didn't feel like getting up to get water
