1985 cab going on a 1977 chassis

Any headaches putting an 85 cab, nose and bed on a 1977 chassis? Both are 2 wd long beds. I know 97% of the things bolt up, but just double checking with the people that would really know.... .

I just want to make sure I get everything I need lined up before the swap (Cab mounts, radiator support placement etc....).

Thanks

Get the mounts that go with the cab and you should be all set. I believe you will have to modify your front bumper/frame mounts to run the 85 bumper...Chris (captkaos) has a pic of how he did his, hopefully he'll chime in.

The headlight wiring will also need to be modified to work with the new front clip.

Correct. If you need a pic of the bumper, I can post a link...

Re: 1985 cab going on a 1977 chassis

So a cab from an 80's truck should bolt right on to a 70's frame with the mounts from the newer cab?
Core support will mount up no problems too?
Looking at a '78 or '79 stepside that is lowered and nice wheels. No engine, tranny and some seious rust issues in the cab. I have an '85 cab and clip in good shape.
I am having problems with emissions testing on the 80's trucks but prefer the look of the 80's so maybe this could be my answer.

No the mounts need to match the chassis not the cab.

GM changed the size of the body mount holes on the chassis in the 80's.

We got some people saying you need the mounts to match the cab and other say they need to match the frame. Which way is it?

Re: 1985 cab going on a 1977 chassis

Allright, allright, I know digging up an old thread, but I didn't feel like creating another one. I am trying to put a '84 cab on a '74 chassis and guess what, neither cab mounts work! The '74 cab mount bolts are to short for the coresuport and the '84 mounts won't fit in the holes on the frame. So more or less it can be done with the help of something to enlarge the holes in the frame.
