Talking Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

I want to see how many of you have made a go at the ol' 307. I would like to see what has been done and what kind of performance people have gotten out of their 307's...even if it is still stock...i'm keeping my 307 and would like to see what others have done...in appearance and performance.

Re: Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

Well I was going to keep my ol' 307 and try to make it as much of a performance engine as I could, but then I found an old 350 and have pretty much decided to swap them since the 350 will be less expensive to rebuild than the 307 and I will get much more out of it than a 307. So sorry.

Hope it helps.

Re: Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

My buddy in high school had a 69 Camaro with a 307, 4sp and single exhaust. We put headers and dual exhaust on that poor motor and I swear, my "butt dyno" estimated that we doubled his HP output. The car felt like it went from dog to jet fighter. He blew it up and went with a 350 after that, but it made a believer out of me in headers and dual exhaust.

Re: Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

I went dual exhaust and went to an electric fan on my 307 - big difference.

Re: Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

Here's the engine in our 68, our first project, my Dad bought this truck in 1972. Original 1968 307, bored .060 over (317 ?) flat tops, block decked, balanced, original 1.72 heads, comp cams HE 212 - 218, comp roller tip rockers and better valve springs, cast iron q-jet manifold (painted) and Holley spreadbore carb, jetted 2 numbers leaner in front, GM HEI and dual exhaust.

Pulls strong to about 5500 ? estimate, no tach, with 3.07 gears thats about 50 in low and 90 in 2nd !!! Works good enough for me. Gets about 16 mpg on the highway.

Re: Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

Super Chevy did an tech article on the 305/307's used a stock 307 added edelbrock aluminum Etech 170 heads with matching vortech performer intake and 600 cfm carb, MSD Pro billet HEI distributor, a mild comp cams and roller tip rockers and made 315 HP and 330 lb/ft of torque. Not bad for a mild performance engines that are usually ignored.

in 71 the 307 put out 225 hp but not sure about torque but still 90 horse increase sounds like a pretty good deal

Re: Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

The one I built had an RV cam,melling hi-volume oil pump,1.94" heads,stock 4bbl manifold,Holley Economaster 450cfm,HEI w/springs & weights kit,flex fan,and headers.This motor ran better than a stock 350 truck motor to say the least.I got 15+mpg with 14.50/37" tires and 4.57 gears and hauled fine.That was my goal.

In 1968, they were rated for 200 hp/300 lb-ft gross, and 150 hp/255 lb-ft net.

Check out this thread, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=45615
It has alot of facts on these engines as well as a build up of a 307.

Re: Pictures and Modifications you have made to the stock 307

dont waste your money and be dissaponted 350-400 coast the same to build and a stock 350 with cam and headdes can stomp a modded out 307 you got to be able to flow air to make power and 307 just was not made for that.
