Best way to put on headers????

I am having a little difficulty getting my headers to go into place. Any nifty tricks to getting them on? I took the spark plugs out and it freed a little space up. Seems to catch on the frame every time.
Thanks
Jeremy

Re: Best way to put on headers????

Where did you get your headers? I'm thinking of replacing mine with a newer, more modern set. Plus I suspect a leak or two...

Sorry I don't have any help

drivers side from the bottom and Pass from the top. Start the farthest bolt back first then do the bolt all the way in the front.

Re: Best way to put on headers????

since your having such a hard time if you dont want any leaks get some orange rvt the heat type.run it around the flange in a nice bead and let it set up.tighten them up a ride around with no leaks. I havent used a gasket in about 8 years or more probably more that made me feel old.

Re: Best way to put on headers????

I've always had the best luck putting both sides in from the bottom, some brands really take some wiggling to get them to slide up there. Don't be afraid to get mean with it!!

It takes the correct language too. Most people forget that. Colorful 'sentence enhancers' are usually the missing tool when a header will not go into place.

^LOL, thats so true tough. Try coming up from the bottom if you have not already other then that just get mean with them but not overboard so nothing gets broke up.

Re: Best way to put on headers????

With my 1986 chevy c10 2 wheel drive. i tried from the top on the passanger side (which worked easy enough) and for the driver side i had to jack the truck up to get the room to put it in. Or another idea is to remove the hood undo the motor mounts and make the room (mostly cause the big power brake boosted got im my way). That 2 ideas that i have used in the past

Re: Best way to put on headers????

I've always came up from the bottom of the truck, didn't matter if it was a 2wd or 4wd. Pull plugs and dipstick holder on driver side and plugs and starter on pass. side, they have always went in easy.

Sounds like our mechanicing styles are very similar!!!

Good luck with the headers... I've always wanted some headers and exhaust....
