i know better.

was pulling gauge cluster to install the camaro tach i got from 72dually. i think the loose connector made contact with the back of the cluster. acrid smoke starting pouring out of the dash. i disconnected the battery, but not before it burned a wire back to the fuse block.

wonder why a fuse didn't blow?

let this serve as a reminder to disconnect out there!

yea i know this one. my truck started while i was tightening the bolts on my starter, scared the living s*** out of me. yea so disconnect out there

iburned up a cheap radio because i didnt disconnect the battery,,i hit the ciggarette lighter..fried it...

Great mistakes guys.I really mean that.If you make these little mistakes once in a while then you get careful enough to avoid the big ones.

do you have an ampmeter in your truck BUCKET? They are always live even with the key off and as far as i know are not fused. This is probably the wire that cooked

let me know what wire you need and if you can't easily make a new one, I am scraping my cab wiring harness and can mail you pieces if needed, no cost if it fits in a regular envelope...shipping only otherwise

i do have the ampmeter. i was thinking thats what it was.

msgross - i want to replace the whole harness from fuse panel to ignition switch. if you have one let me know.

A kid here burned down his garage, a Jeep, and half of his house when his starter wires arched and ignited the fuel that was leaking out of the carb. One of the tanks from a oxy/acet. set went through the garage wall.
