got a 70' blazer 4wd with a worn out 350/4spd. will converting it to 2wd kill the value of the truck?

If done right it will increase the value since they made alot of 4x4's and not enough 2x4's so even a 2x4 convert is more valueable then the same condition 4x4. Down the road this may change but for not it is what it is.

I'd guess that a nice 4wd and an equally nice converted 2wd are probably about the same value. There are a lot of guys on the board who would love to have a 2wd (me included). I would certainly consider a converted or converting a 4wd. Neither will be worth as much as a factory 2wd in the same condition.

Go for it - but take lots of pictures of the progress and post them here on the board for all to see.

I agree 4x4's are a dime a dozen. If you build what you want it dosent mater what its worth as long as your happy.

I would say e-bay the 2wd drive would sell better. but I dont think ether way its going to make a big difrence. Both tend to apeal to diffrent markets so how you option eather style will probably have moore influance on the sale.

I have a 4X4 that I was going to sell or convert, still on the fence. I know a convert is a sin, but so is cutting up and original 2wd to add bags. If I was going to put bag, lower, or otherwise molest a frame, then I'd buy a 4X4 and do it that way. That being said, if I can't get the $$$ out of my 4X4 I have a 73 and up crossmember ready to bolt on and a pair of lowered leafs, sounds like a good weekend project!!

the main reason for the conversion is room. my 70' chevy is too small, i am 6' 6" and the blazer will allow me to move the seat further back. plus i have no need for 4wd with a tow rig. stepping up sucks also as i am feeling my age. nice to have dry tool storage also. i would much rather have a new extended cab truck but that is out of my current budget and besides i really like the looks of the 70'

Livrat has converted a dozen or more. He's in the Tukwilla area.

You can get custom complete or components from Jim Meyer. I got a price list from them once. I think a 2wd short bed frame with the ride height you specify was around $8,000. AirRide brings it up around $10,000 (gulp).

Crap for whatever a 2wd crossmember costs, you can convert one. If the low look is what your after a lowered spring or putting the axle on top of the spring and your done. I think you have to drill some holes to bolt the 2wd crossmember in and unbolt the 4X4 stuff, but nothing that would promt your average wrench to drop 10 large on a frame! Nice stuff, but 10g?
