Will a 700r4 from a 84 s-10 blazer work in our trucks

Will a 700r4 from a 84 s-10 blazer work in my 68? It had a 2.8 in front of it originally. I will get it rebuilt before I ever use it. Just wanted to know if it would work

You will need an automatic crossmember which is no big deal.
Are you sure that a 700r4 came in a s-10? Just looking at one they appear too large for a s-10 truck or blazer.
I know some on the board say to stay away from certain years of this tranny as they are weak and not quite as good as some later year 700's. I am not sure which years are the best.

Yes Chevybill 700r4 came factory in the 4.3 S10's . If it was behind a 2.8. then no it won't work because a 2.8 had a different bell housing bolt pattern. now if it was a 4.3 S10. then the bell housing well bolt to a small block.

Re: Will a 700r4 from a 84 s-10 blazer work in our trucks

I had an 84 s-15 GMC with the 2.8 and the trans will not bolt up to a SBC the only engines with the same bolt pattern are the 4.3 v-6s. The trans is not called a 700r4 IIRC. I would have to look up the manual to see what it was called. Now it may be that the blazer is different so don't take this as gospel.

2.8 and 4.3 S 10 came with 700. Yes the bellhousing is different on the 2.8. The 4.3 700 is different from V 8 version on the inside ( less clutches on a 4.3 unit ) these are still ok if you dont pull hard or put lots of power to it.
