Question What does this do?

There is a bracket on the steering shaft of my 83 C10. It's right after the shaft comes out of the fire wall, it's movable and there are two parts to it. I don't think it's anything to do with the motor (ran the Vin number...cam with an I6, and it has an I6 in it now) I'll try and post a pic of it.

Edit: Ok, that didn't work. Lets try this.

Thats the shift lever's for a column shift (manual trans) You've probably got a floor shifter in it now?

Yeah I have a floor shift in it now. There is a plastic part on the steering coloum that moves (and if it's not in the right position you can pull the key out).
