wobbly oil pump shaft?
i am currently putting a vortec headed 350 in a friends van and im also putting in the disributor. i try to stab it in and it will only go so far and then stop. i have had it in all the way a time or two but it was in the wrong postition. today i was trying to adjust the oil pump shaft and i noticed that it wobbled a bit in the block. could it be that the oil pump shaft is misalligned and stopping the distributor from seating all the way? i have never had this much trouble putting a distributor in (i have done it a few times).

Re: wobbly oil pump shaft?
Look at the bottom of the dizzy, there's a flat blade (like a screwdriver), it fits into a slot in the oilpump drive, it sounds like the slot isn't facing the right way. Take a looong screwdriver and turn the oil pump shaft as needed to get the dizzy in all the way.

Re: wobbly oil pump shaft?
The wobble is normal. The distributor gear will hold it when installed.

Re: wobbly oil pump shaft?
yea it has the slot and the distributor is a brand new accel distributor. i have also spun the shaft with a screwdriver in just about every direction. its just extremely frustrating but atleast everything is ok.
