Rotten Gas

I bought my truck knowing it had some rotten gas in the tank. I know I can dump out the gas but how do I clean the tank and what do I clean it with. Someone told me hot soap and water with some small stones to act as an abrassive to break up the varnish from the rotten gas. Has anyone else run into this problem and if so how did you fix it. I know I can buy a new tank but I hate to spend the money on it. I guess I could buy one used if I can find one. Any recomendations on this?

If your going to remove it anyway... Take it to a radiator repair shop and have them clean it out.

This question came up a while back and someone had posted to go to the HARDWARE store in the paint dept. and get some stuff I think was called KR2 it is a cleaner.

Whomever posted it said they had used it and it worked well.

It was over on WES's board, you might try the search feature to see if you can find it exactly.

Take it to a radiater shop. (We have a rad shop where I work) They will soak it, bake it, even sand blast if needed, and then coat it with some crap that will seal it all up.
From what I hear, the new tanks suck. They bow from the weight of the fuel in them.
An old tank will most likely have crap in it...along with rust and varnish...just like what your trying to avoid with yours.

surprisingly the truck starts right up and idles but man that gas is some rank stuff. I know it has been in there for several years. I was surprised that the truck ran at all.
