Has anybody used Advanced Adapters trans to transfer case mount for putting a 2wd trans into a 4x4? I have 2 th400's and want to use one in my truck (avatar) but they are 2wd's.I called AA and they said it would be about 600 bones for the conversion kit. And so far all the local ads for 4x4 th400's are INSANE! Any suggestions?

You can use the 2x trans with a 205 t-case and the factory adaptor. Just double check the depth of the splines, some of the input gears of the 205 are not deep enough and you may have to trim about 5/8'' off the splines of the trans.

You could also try to find a divorced 205 Transfer Case with a small driveshaft in between.... You have to modify the shifter to fit in stock by building a longer bracket.... but you could make that work if needed as well... and should be cheaper than 600 bones. This would be good if you wheel your truck at all.... you can set the front and the back driveshafts to be the same length... thus you break the rear driveshaft... replace it with the front to get home. Have one rebuilt with the short 4x4 center shaft. i have changed center shaft and leave the tail shaft housing off and its a 4x4 trans. but the easiest way and to start fresh is to just buy the shaft and have it rebuilt with the shorter center shaft.

I used the AA kit to install a TH400 in my 72 with a np205 tc. The kit comes with a larger input gear and bearing for the TH400 tranny. You need to have the tc machined for the new gear. Its a lot of money but it works great. The Th350 or manual input shaft on the np205 won't work on a TH400. I used the short shaft 2wd TH400 and just removed the tailshaft housing. It bolts right up to the adapter.

I have a 2wd 400 in my 89, using a Ford 205 case, and adaptor for a 208/241. I swapped the t-case input with a GM one from an 86. Member on CK5 had a spacer made so you can mate the two together, let me borrow it so I could get one made. The GM and Ford 6 bolt pattern LOOK the same, but they are not. 2 holes are slightly off. What the spacer does it take up the extra shaft length, clock the case, and proper spacing on the bolt holes. So, you can get a spacer made that goes between the case and adaptor.
