Re: Worlds Best And Cheapest Engine-chassis Degreaser

i use aircraft paint remover on everything. it eats though grease, oil, and carbon like nothing. i can put a layer on an old piston and it will look brand new when i clean it off.

And can the general public score some of that stuff? If so, where?

Oven cleaner is great but make sure you use it in a well ventilated area or you will be coughing like the first time you took a hit of...well, you will cough a lot! Be safe!

I used to only see this stuff at auto parts stores. But the last time I was at Wal-Mart it was in the automotive department by the paint. It's kind os a white and blue can.

oh, thats just what its called on the can. you can get it at any auto parts store or walmart. it is in gel form and i usually apply it with a small paint bursh. it is the best thing i have ever used. i hear that oven cleaner can stain aluminum parts.

Burns your eyes also, definitely wear goggles with this stuff. Oven cleaner works, but if your parts are warm it works better.

Yea, they were good times! I use Gunk, Carb, and Brake Kleen at the same time. I know it's to many things to deal with but I like the results.

Re: Worlds Best And Cheapest Engine-chassis Degreaser

Today's aircraft paint stripper is not what it used to be. Not quite as strong. I still like it best for paint removal. It is a bit pricey so I use oven cleaner for degreasing. Dollar for dollar, I choose oven cleaner for cleaning dirty parts.

If you wear eye glasses DO NOT get any overspray from the oven cleaner on them.I was not thinking about it & just got a few speckels on my glasses & it ate right into the plastic lens.

Keep in mind that oven cleaner will remove the paint right along w/the grease & soil. Simple Green works well for grease/oil clean-ups w/o damage to most paints.

You got lucky.

I use it as part of my prep to strip engine blocks of grease & old paint. It will eat the paint off.... maybe not all paint/paints, but why roll the dice.
