porta walls

Has any one used "porta walls"? They are a "fake" press on wide white wall.

Re: porta walls

I have a set, but haven't used them. My friend has used them on several cars. You can get them from Lucas Automotive in Long Beach, CA. Is there anything in particular you want to know, I can ask him?

Re: porta walls

A friend of mine used them. They break the tire seat and put them in there. He had one that wanted to bubble in small area but other than that great. go for it.

Re: porta walls

I had a set of porta-walls, and I'm not a big fan. Although they are a fraction of the price of a legite whitewall, it takes somewhere familiar with them to get them mounted evenly across the bead. Even if you're able to get them mounted, once the vehicle weight has been dropped on the tire, it often "wrinkles" at the bottom of the tire.

Re: porta walls

Like others have posted, you have to be very careful when you put them on so they sit right in the bead. My friend suggests making sure the bead area of the rim is clean and uniform before you put them on. Set them in the bead and inflate the tire slowly, checking the fit as you go. He has a car right now with some porta-walls on it, they look great. Granted it's not a heavy car (VW Karmen Ghia), but they look nice and there's now bulging or bubbling.

Re: porta walls

You can make your own white walls!!!!..... go to youtube and type in white walls , this guy shaved some rubber off the side wall of a tire (white letter or thin white wall tire) to expose the rest of the white rubber underneath the black side wall. won't jepordize the integrity of the tire either. its really clever youtube doesn't work on my gov. puter other wise i would insert the link...sorry!!!!.............. I'm in the prossec of converting my blackwalls to white i'll send you some pics when i'm done

Yeah, I've seen that done too. It's really messy and you can easily mess up a perfectly good tire. IF you went that route, I'd find some old tires and get a lot of practice in. The other thing is that the white section doesn't go all the way to the lip of the rim, like a real wide, white wall tire does. I'd stick with the porta-walls or pony-up and buy some nice Diamond Back Classics!
