white smoke on initial start up
i just started up a rebuilt 350 with vortec heads. as soon as i got it running, i reved it to 2000 reguardless of the timing. i tried to put it at the best timing to let it run. the exhaust was pumping out a slight white smoke that didnt smell like coolant and i didnt see any bubbles in radiator. the temp rose to about 195 and started to climb, which i assumed that the bad timing was the reason of the hot temp. the exhaust not sounded off to. tomorrow im going to start it back up, let it idle, and set the timing. what do yall think?

Normal. Run it awhile then see what it does.

Re: white smoke on initial start up
could be water left in the exhaust. play with the timing quickly and finish braking in the cam it should be alright.

Re: white smoke on initial start up
Could've bent a valve from the wrong cam timing.

Re: white smoke on initial start up
what kind of rockers are on this engine? they should be self aligning rockers,
on vortec heads. just a FYI theres a few limits on cam lift and spring seat pressure with stock vortec heads without mods. the first two pictures show self aliging rockers the last one is a reg style rocker. hope you get it worked out.. your pal mark Last edited by rage'nrat638; 07-12-2007 at 06:58 AM. |
