Oil pan clearance

I want to use a 7 quart oil pan on my new 383 that's going in my '71 C 10. Are there any clearance issues to worry about engine or chassis wise before I order it? Thanks

I am not sure if the 7 qt. pan will be a problem or not, but I had a 388 (.060 over rather than .030 stock 4" bore) with a stock z-28 oil pan and windage tray and it worked prefect. The motor was fully roller producing over 450 hp. The best et was 7.90 in an 1/8 mile. Just FYI. I am eager to see if it works for you.

I’m going to assume you have a 2wd 1/2 ton? (You don’t have any info on a sig line, which could make a big difference on this question.)
I don’t think there’s much clearance on the frame ~2 inches or so where it goes up toward the front of the engine. If it’s just the sump then should be fine IMO.

Click on my sig and look at the build. I had some steel blocks built and welded to the frame to have the BB set further back and higher than stock. I had the stock oil pan on the mock up motor. When I put the Moroso 7 qt. pan on, the front center link rubbed on the front of the oil pan. It was pretty bad. I had to take the motor back out and cut into the brand new oil pan. I just cut a relief back on the front of the pan and welded a piece of 16 gauge back on the pan, ground it all back down and painted it, there is a pic of the completed pan on my page, it worked OK, and I could have afforded to cut back a larger relief, so just be careful and think about it carefully. If I had to do over again, I would put pan and everything on the motor, and drop into place, don't disconnect from the hoist, and make sure your clear before you disconnect. Be sure to steer from left to right, and make sure your headers and valve covers are on, and if you have a transplanted brake booster, be sure your valve covers WITH THE HOLD DOWNS will clear, I ran into that issue too, and will have to use a different Hold Down for the back drivers side valve cover. Tall Valve Covers would definitely not fit in my application, but if your doing any kind of swapping and transplanting from different trucks, be sure to mock everything up before you go permanent. Just my .02 cents.

i have a 6 quart pan with 1 in the oil filter= 7 quarts and mine fit's no problem.

i have a 6 quart pan with 1 in the oil filter= 7 quarts and mine fit's no problem.

Any internal clearance issues, I wouldn't think so just wanna make sure. Btw I'll put my truck in my sig when I'm sure what it is....
