I should have bought it...

I saw an unmolested '72 2wd Blazer yesterday in a gas station and pulled up to talk to the owner. It had serious rust in the rockers, lowers, and lift gate but everything was still there down to the original hubcaps. He said he would entertain an offer but I thought naw, too much rust. As soon as I pulled away I started kicking myself. DOH!!!!!! Maybe I'll see it again.

Re: I should have bought it...

That's the cool thing about rust. Someone with out a welder an very little mechanical ability sees rust as a $1000 bodyshop bill. But...if you can weld (I'm not that good at it) and have $80 for patch panels, it ain't nothin but a few weekends in the garage. The rockers, cab corner and kick panel I replaced last winter came out really good. I couldn't have afforded to pay a proffesional to do it though.

Never second guess yourself. Go with your first thought and if it turns out to be wrong, work it out later.

Re: I should have bought it...

Yeah, I don't know why the rust was even an issue, I mean that's the way we thougt when these trucks were plentiful. I am really kicking myslelf this morning. I guess I just wasn't focused, thinking about moving and some other things. I deserve a good kicking. It was ochre/white with 350/350. I'll be on the lookout, and next time it's mine.

One in the hand is worth two in the bush. And it is my favorite colors. Good luck tracking it down.

I agree if you really want one. Save up and wait for the time to come. Also if you are willing to pay for shipping I have seen about 3 of them on collectorcartrader.com. Anyway, I turned one down about 3 years ago in Lakeland. The guy wanted way too much for a rolling chassis because the tub was swiss cheese. But because it was a 2wd he thought it was a gold mine. Anyway, fast forward three years later I now have the money saved up and I get one that is in much better condition. I was ready when the opprotunity was right. Like they say if you really one want good things come to those who wait.

Re: I should have bought it...

Interesting ---rusty blazer---humm, who would have thought---hehehehe AND a welder will fix it----hummmm. Sometimes it's best to go with your gut as bringing that baby home, finding a place to store it, then considering the work to cut and replace especially when many of the sheet metal parts for blazers are not reproduced---you may have made the right decision!!!.

Ya, I guess it all comes down to your skill level, the amount of money you have available, or the amount of a challenge you're up to. I'll bet for some, like Rokcrln and others, it's not even a challenge. I realize not all parts are reproduced for Blazers, but even Goodmark doesn't make parts for this.

I like the looks of your truck. Do you have more pictures of it somewhere that I could take a look at.
