1st posting so please excuse me. I recently purchased a "69" Chevy C10. It was a 1 owner truck and in good condition. My problem is my wife wants me to keep it orginal and I want to keep the Chevy blue and chrome it up put a 327 in it. So what are ya'lls ideas?

Re: keep orginal?

Welcome from sunny northern Iowa !!! Check out the links in my sig for pics of our 68, it is "original" with a few mods, all of the mods would be reversable if I wanted to go back to bone stock original.

Re: keep original?

personally, I doubt i'd ever be happy with a stock truck this old.
I lean towards the stock-ish look, while modding what ever i can under the hood. Inside, i like to add itemds, while again, maintaining the stock-ish look.
Personally, i fid these things pretty booring bone stock.

Re: keep original?

I like the stock look while updating mechanical for perforance and safety. Bigger engines disk brakes, gas tank out of the cab, etc.. but when it comes to changing something just for the looks of it I like the stock look of the trucks thats why I own two of them and not a brand new truck.

Re: keep original?

If your wife is anything like mine, she wants you to keep it stock because she doesnt want you to spend all your money on it. Tell her that it would cost twice as much to restore it to origional than to make a neat little hot rod... It probably wont work but it sure is worth a try... Just go with the flow & see what it turns into...

Re: keep original?

Stock to her is probably like it sits right now. To her, modding it will only cost more money and she don't want to see you dump piles of money into a pit. What are your intentions? Just a daily driver, show truck or some where in the middle?

Re: keep original?

i like stock and i like hotroded just do what you like and maybe involve the wife into it and make compramises and have an "our" truck instead of a "my" truck but engine wise stock is pretty boring but it depends on what kind of driving you do but WELCOME to the board and i hope you enjoy your time here and the truck aswell

Re: keep original?

My intentions are to drive around on weekends and maybe a show or two. She's getting this wild hair that when my soon turns 16 or 17 that we give it to him.. wrong answer!!! I guess I will end up on the couch over that one. My overall intentions was to do what most everyone has said update the mechanics except for the 327.

Re: keep original?

My wife wanted me to keep mine stock as well, but now she likes what I've done to it. I'm too young to drive a stock truck.

Re: keep original?

My wife wants me to leave everything alone, but she knows better. Funny part about my wife, she wants nothing to do with my projects & never even wants to hear about them, but when they are done, thats a whole different story. Can I take OUR car? Can I ride OUR motorcycle? Crazy old woman...

Re: keep original?

Ask the wife what she means by "stock". If she means "as-is", then there may be financial or "appearance" reasonning behind it. Find out just what she wants (BTW, then watch for that to change tomorrow). If it's a more "technical" definition, then look for all the possible options your truck could have from the factory. Finding out where her "limits" are can go a long way toward supporting your hobby. Most car hobby things are and always should be negotiables when it comes to keeping good relations w/the wife. Some [soon to be single] guys don't care about that. It's obvious you do, or you wouldn't have asked the question. Good luck.
