Seat Belt restoration. Anybody know of any good sources?

The lap/shoulder belts in my 86 are in pretty good shape, but the retractors are shot. Can you buy this part new, or is there someone out there that refurbishes these?

If you want premium quality belts this is the way to go. Plan on spending 300-400 on them if you have them restored.

I would consider finding some used ones as well...

$300.00-$400.00? Not me!! You can find nice ones on ebay. Just make sure you ask how the retractors work. Price seems to depend also on color. Black for some reason cost more for a good set. Around $100.00 -+.

Yeha there are two black sets on ebay right now. one has a buy it now of 220 the other is at 86 i think. I have been needing some for ages but they don't seem to look like my stockers. mine hive a much smaller base then the ones on ebay. would anyone happen to have a picture of stock belts for an 84? I get frustrated by the price of seat belts but then again it is probibly one of the most important parts. It just my stockers woul probibly do nothing because they are soo shot

there i go getting off topic again.........

anyway for the price of restored ones you could buy two or even three sets of good condition originals.

My belts themselves aren't really too bad, I wonder if there is somewhere that you can by just the rectractors from?

Guys I am not sure if you are aware of this, I would find a good pair of retractors and buy new belts from LMC or some other place. Then take all that to an upholstery shop and have them sew the new belts on to the retractors. I am pretty sure most any upholstery shop is able to do this.

TexasJeff-
You're 'bably right.
But, a few years back, I read in one of the Street Rod rags that they recommended against reconditioning the belts by using an upholstery shop. It had to do with the strength of the stitching and liability issues. But, times (technology) have 'bably changed.

LT1powered-

You might want to try Juliano's. I don't know if they offer just the retractor. But, they do offer the 3-point bench belt for $90 ($65 without the hardware). Contact them (http://www.julianos.com/3_point_belt_bench.html) and see what they suggest.

You might try a shop that deals in aircraft interiors. The FAA is stringent on safety items. The cost might be prohibitive, but it might be worth a shot.
