Raced a viper today
Was in my 65 Chevelle wagon w/ a 540. He got me but he had a running start and I didn't know I was about to race until he was just behind me, I was basically playing catch-up. Was doing pretty good but had to slow down. At first I thought it was a Miata in the rear view, but then I was relieved when it was a viper. Guy was way cool, waved at us, we waved at him. Great time, great story, my wife was freaking out but afterwards she can do nothing but talk about it to everyone. Just an hour before that my wife was saying "how come we can never get anyone to race us". Didnt ever think I'd go up against a viper, maybe next time the start will be a little more fair, maybe I'll get him.

Re: Raced a viper today
Street racing is illegal and highly dangerous! But sometimes you got to do what you got to do

Re: Raced a viper today
my wife was the same way, once after i chewed up and spat out some piece of poser rice. i NEVER ever feel the urge to do that, but that day, i did. my wife is always nagging about how much of and old man i act like (im 33, but act 50 to her i guess)... but needless to say, as soon as the race was over i was her hero!

Re: Raced a viper today
We wont be mad at you for doing those illegal things if you post pics of that sweet wagon for us to drool over. We are pretty upset so you better go ahead & post a few of the engine too...

Re: Raced a viper today
Wife told me she got her Chevelle up to 120 today. She even said it didn't even feel like 120. I am kinda scared to think of the RPM's at that speed since she only has a TH400 in it. But all that end well and all.

Re: Raced a viper today
racing is always fun even street racing as long as youre responsable and not stupid like i see alot of the people around here doing, i go out once in a while and my buddy goes to but we only race when there is little to no traffic and we can do it as safe as possible if that makes sense, but mostly we just cruise around but race now and then

Re: Raced a viper today
It was a four lane road and there was absolutley no one on it. I'm not one who usually instigates Illegal drags, but the opportunity was there and I had to take it. Heres the wagon.`

Re: Raced a viper today
sweet ride and it sounds like you have a great wife!
I'll bet you have less money invested than him and have MUCH cheaper insurance. so in my mind you win. besides, if your wagon was next to a Viper at a car show you would have a much bigger crowd. |

Re: Raced a viper today
That is a nice wagon for sure.
The Commander of my Navy Reserve unit has a '67 with a vanity plate "bad wgn". It's not a big block, but it's still a wagon worth having. There are very few in my book, your is sure top though.

Re: Raced a viper today
I know better than to race the Viper in my town, cuz it's a X race car (the owner is Newt Watson) Cool guy tho, & his car sounds so good
Anything else in town I'm not afraid of We have plenty of Stangs, Corvettes, & "bad" trucks (well the owners think they're bad) I have my sights set on a corvette that the owner thinks is "really bad" and his engine is "supposed" to put out like 500 HP, it's gonna be a good feel'n when I beat his Vette in my Bug |

Re: Raced a viper today
I love 65 chevelles. Ive had 3 of them. Thanks for posting the pics, you are cleared of all charges!
Did you build the car or buy it that way? The guy I bought my edelbrock valve covers from had one almost identical to yours. I think he was from SoCal though... Last edited by corn; 02-05-2007 at 07:09 PM. |

Re: Raced a viper today
My dad built it. he was killed last year and I bought it from my step mother. He put alot into it. The license plate is 4bgdady, thats what my wife called my dad and what her son calls me, dual purpose. We paid $47,000 for it so yeah I'm about half of what he probably paid for his. I still think if I'd knew he was coming I'd have had a better chance. Its got a 5 speed and 3:73's with 590 hp I think I definately had more unless he did some work to his. The website says they are 505 hp or somewhere around that. Still pretty stoked about the experience.

Also if you go to http://gallery.newrarewagon.com/hill at the end there is a pic of him doing a burnout in his driveway. One of the last videos we have of him. He was a hot rodder through and through all the way.

Re: Raced a viper today
My wife gets mad at me when I do stuff like that with her in the car. But turn your back and let her take it out with a girlfriend and she's a rubber burning, tire smoking hell on wheels. Go figure. At least it's insured. I just wait 'till I'm alone before I "stretch" it out a bit.
Still, in a relatively safe (though certainly not legal) environment with no one elso on the road, and both of you knowing when to back off for safety's sake, it can be a lot of fun.
