Re: ever heard of this?

I don't know how common it is, but I've got a trailer made by welding the axle to an early 60's Ford short fleet side box. It was bought at a local estate auction for $80.

Boy, is it rusty. So bad, we had to put plate steel in the bottom before anything could be loaded. Bounces REAL bad at highway speeds, maybe partially due to the axle is slightly bent. Real handy with the tailgate though. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Re: ever heard of this?

You mean a old far that has a short bed and thinks its a long bed? Theres a lot of people that have long bed trailers made out of short beds thay just don't know it.And will argue with you tell the end of the world that its a long bed becuase joe blow that solded it to him said it was.

Re: ever heard of this?

Could it be that by shortbed you mean Stepside? And he knows he has an 8` Stepside? They are a bit rare or seldom seen and they are "old-style" since Fleetsides didn`t exist before`58.I guess you knew you were looking at a Fleetside tailgate.
Anyway, other than tying to decifer all that, are you going to buy it or not?Long or Short

Re: ever heard of this?

young kids bothering old people to sell stuff ?? happens all the time

have also seen many cases where kids were willing to buy tailgates or other parts for $100 when they could of bought the whole trailer for $25

If there is a stake hole at the wheel wells, then it is a long bed

Re: ever heard of this?

The Ford bed is a 58-59 and was also used on the "wrong bed" trucks of '61.
