6 Lugs, am I crazy to keep it?

I have a 68 gmc with 6 lugs, I'm thinking I want to keep it that way. From most of what I've heard I'm insane, I hear that parts are more expensive and harder to find. I really only care about the rear end, I could care less about wheels I'm not a flashy wheel guy. But I want to do a lposi rear end or some type of LSD evetually, I'm knew to the older car world and I'm not sure how it works, can I get a all the posi stuff and find 6 lug axles that would spline in, is that the really expensive part, or do I need like a special carrier? I'm not sure if the splines are different on 6 lug axles..

Input, ideas?

all that matter with putting in a posi is the correct spline count 5 and 6 are same and that you get a posi unit for a 12 bolt rear end aslong as your hasn't ben swaped for a 10 bolt then you would have to get a 10 bolt posi carrier with the correct spline count. I would recomend switching to 5 lug since you can convert to disk fronts and wheels are much easyer to find.

I still have 6 bolts and find it perfectly fine. The 6 bolt kit for front disks was the same price as 5 bolt. Besides, if I ever want to switch the rear to 5 bolt I can just do it and swap front rotors (which could be worn out by then), cheaper than doing front and rear at same time. (but more $ in the long run, but not much).

I have one truck with 5 and one truck with 6 , no big deal , except there's more choice for 5 lug rims , really just about a wash .

keeping the 6 lug is cheaper since you only have to purchase custom rotors if you decide to go with front disc. cost is around $100 for a set. if you convert it's more expencive but parts are easier to obtain. the front 5 lug rotors and rear 5 lug drums are avalable at any parts store and are around $30 each. for a total 5lug conversion it costs around $500 if you count converting to front disc seperatly. BTW in my experince it is alot cheaper to purchase everything you need to convert the front to disc at the parts store than buy a kit. granted you could swap the front crossmember but why bolt on old parts when new ones are cheap. all it takes is a little time and common sence. it took me 4 hrs with all new parts to convert my 69 to front disc. i did save a little money by using stock spindles but that's up to you. it's really a great time to install drop spindles and springs if you go that route.

Thanks guys, on my purchase list is a set of drop spindles, was really just deciding on keeping the 6 lugs or not, I think I'll keep them around for now, 5 lug does have the advantage for wheel choice but i'm more a stock steely guy anyway.
