Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
I’m looking at getting an air gap intake which doesn’t have the divorced choke.
Is there anything I can do short of getting a new carb? Electric choke maybe? s/t

TRY here, Not sure if this is what your looking for. if not an electric or manual choke should fix you up. I love the Air gap too.

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
That’s cool; I’ll give them a call. I also might need some jetting too.

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
That eclectric choke mounts in the same spot the orginal one does. I'm going to need something that mounts to the carb.

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
do you really need a choke in your area?
look at a Qjet from the mid to late 70s and rob the whole assembly from it. |

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
what is the solenoid looking thing-a-ma-jig that the throttle rest on on the right side of a quad? what does the wire hook to? to me it looks like something to idle the motor up with while the a/c is running?

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
the early qjets cannot have elecric chokes put on but the mid 70s qjets just need the electric chock installed in the bimetalic housing on the carb

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
tha caddy qjets and olds have the fuel line straight out the front instead of the side. Pick a late 70s q jet, i believe the US qjets went to electronic metering around 81, in Canada ours did not change till 86

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
Most Qjets from 1975 on had the choke mounted on the carb. I have a 1976 454 with the divorced choke however. The model 4MC (carb mounted thermostatic choke) and 4ME (carb mounted electric choke) are the models you are looking for. The 4MV is the divorced choke model.

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
Well, since these trucks started coming with automatic choke in 69 or 70,Any original carb from that year or newer.Your carb must have been swapped.

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
EXACTLY!!!!!!
look for a 75ish (pre- aneroid) from a light truck or large car. stay with one from a small block, biger engine carbs have a richer fuel curve which is very difficult to make work correctly for your truck. what i am running is a stock one from a 79 G20 van (engine donor) that I re-calibrated to 72 truck SBC specs. I drilled out the air bleeds and swapped all 4 jets and rods. with mine you can change the lean limit while the engine is running for fine tuning. the older ones you have to remove the carb because the screw is behind a plug on the front of the base plate making access almost impossible. |

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
I have not seen qjets with a choke on the carb until the mid 70s. The early qjets had a few holes for a vent right on top of the carb above the fuel filter housing, you need a carb with the choke housing on the carb.

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
So what gets hooked the electric choke? 12v on a keyed source or thermal sensor?

Re: Electric choke for the factory Q-jet?
12V keyed, also take a picture of your carbs linkage with you when you go looking. That carb is off a mid 70's Caddy (795CFM, side fuel inlet) the base plate will need to be changed to one with the right linkage setup or dissembled and put in a throttle shaft with the proper linkage.
