Fair Trade?

I suspect this will be OK to put in this forum as this would be a local trade deal.

I have a 72 GMC 3/4 ton Burb.

The guy that came to spray my house for bugs saw some rims and tires off of an 03 Tahoe in the back yard. He wanted to buy them, so I told him 100 bucks and he can have them. He said OK.

I told him I was thinking about converting my 8 lug to a six. He said, he had a 67 rear axle that was 6 lug that he could trade for the rims. And it has a locker in it... I am not a car guy, so I figure that the locker is kind of like posi traction...right??

I called my buddy who schools me on working on my burb, and he said it should fit just fine. As my burb is a spring rear end...

So to all the experts here, will it definately work, and is it a good trade???
He said it is in good condition, but it will be looked at before the deal is done of course...

What do you think?

Re: Fair Trade?

What year is the rear from? The spacing for the springs could be different if it`s from a 4wd or a later year.After`72,the shocks were both mounted to the front of the axle,`72-back is stagered front/rear.If they`re both 12-bolts,the locker can be swapped if both rears use the same series carrier. If you can just "swap",it`s a much better deal.If you need to get into a ring & pinion or housing swap,it get`s into your pocket pretty good.

Re: Fair Trade?

The trade would be for a 67 2wd rear end.

Re: Fair Trade?

is your burb coils or leafs? is the rearend coils or leafs? if there the same then yes it will fit. the differance would be the distance from mounting surface to mounting surface. if there diff then your back spacing will be diff. i cant remeber the track off the top of my head right now. if you want i can measure the lenght of my 67 3/4 rear and my 68 1/2 rear and get back to you. it will be a few days.
