Where does headlight grounding wire go?
I am putting my truck back together and on the driver side my headlight grounding wire has two places to ground it? Looks like one goes to the core support and the other looks like it could go to the regulator? Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Where does headlight grounding wire go?
you probably know better than i, and many on the board will be more accurate...
as my 71 C10 has the grounds both attached to the front radiator wall, (core support), to the bolts holding the regulator. but then, this one was sincerely spliced by the PO. |

Re: Where does headlight grounding wire go?
I used a 1.5" bolt through and existing hole in the support, put one nut on it and tightened it down, then the wires then another nut to hold them tight.

Re: Where does headlight grounding wire go?
I also combined mine to one ground point. As long as you have good continuity you should be ok. The only exception might be if the regulator needs a separate ground because it's mounted by rubber isolators, that's the only reason I can think of for GM to put a separate ground wire there. Most times those rubber mounts are long gone and the reg is mounted to metal.
Looks like a nice excuse to do the internal regulator conversion...

Re: Where does headlight grounding wire go?
I have new rubber mounts to the regulator, I wasn't sure if those were for vibration reduction or to keep it from grounding. I guess I will run the other ground to the regulator since it looks like that is where it belongs. Thanks

Re: Where does headlight grounding wire go?
there is a ground to the regulator "body", but it isn't part of the wiring harness. It's a seperate piece of wire about 6" long. the headlight ground to the core support (front sheetmetal) and so does the regulator. It shouldn't matter if they are both grounding at the same spot.
