Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
When are you planning on heading out this way? I've been here a little over 3 years via Baltimore and love it. There is a lot to do outdoors wise and rust on trucks is not an issue out here. Hope your move goes smoothly

Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
When I move out here 15 years ago I wanted to live in Santa Fe, but its very expensive. Houses are very expensive $325K ~375K average price. In Albuquerque the average is $225K or so. I live in the mountains outside of Albuquerque, 12miles from the ski area. I like living out side of the city. The one complaint I have is the mayor is going crazy with the red-light cameras! It would be bad if it just was red-light cameras, but now he has added radar for speeding too.
I haven’t gotten a ticket yet, but just don’t like the idea. He just banned cell-phones while driving yesterday. He says it not about the money, but I say BS! Anyway, good luck in your endeavor. And let us know how it goes. s/t

Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
barepaint, you picked a nice place to go.There is a lot to do in that area.I'm from Amarillo Tx.and have spent many a weekend and quite a few weeks in NM.The two cities you mentioned are about the main population centers there and should have the best job opourtunities. That said you will probably find the $$$ to be less than Pa.However there are some pluses. One is that the cost of living is somewhat better. There are several sites that give a cost of living comparison to help determine how much you need to make to live equal.I don't know the addy's of any and "The Queen of Visa" is out right now,but they should be easy to find.Monster.com should have one. There also isn't as much industry there so jobs will be a little more scarce.I would start with a job search and see what came up.If the $$ doesn't work with the cost of living difference then it may not work out unless you are looking to start your own bussiness. In that case nearly every city has an economic development group to help.Good luck and keep us posted.

I want to move, too.I`m takin`notes.I`ve had two sisters (oldest & youngest)living out that way.First in Taos, then after my oldest sister died my youngest ended up in Santa Fe.She`s a silversmith and those two towns are where she needs to be.They have winter, but it`s nicer than back east.

NM is a good warm place! My wife and I did the same thing...Got sick of the Liberal BS in CA and headed out and wound up in Denver. There is lib BS here too, unfortunately. So...on your way to NM when you come thru Denver...lunch is on me! Change is good...it was great for us!

Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
FWIW, I think I’d like to move to Colorado Springs someday.
But I live in a postcard view now, and don’t want to give it up! This picture is from my kitchen window in December, & that’s my dog house that I can live in if I keep spending money on my truck. lol s/t

Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
Thanks guys...I am in a rural area so house prices I know will give Me sticker shock...I am ready though...A little less won't hurt...I'm low maintenance...wife has better possibilities for her career...Snow picture is beautiful...I live in the snow belt...Don't mind snow change of seasons...but could use the dry air and more sun...not so many zero something days with the humid wind of the river...keep them coming and love to do lunch...in co

Good luck with your search for a job and a new place.
In 1996 the shipyard I worked at closed and we decided to move from California to Missouri because California was getting to be too crowded with way to much crime. We now live in Southeast Missouri and ejoy the slower paced country life. '71 Chevy C-10 Farm Truck |

NOW YOUR TALKIN`!!!But,don`t drink the Kool-Aid,lol.Get a subscription to the area`s news paper.A great way to get a "real feel" of the area. You`ll learn more about the surrounding areas.
Last time I was out there,I did notice one thing, though. There`s alot of`67CST/20CustomCampers out there, mostly blue. There`s only one black one, though: I guess this means double trouble, now. If you do go,best luck to ya.

Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
I say go ahead and move there. I'm envious beacuse I wanted to leave Canada and move to Albuquerque in 1989/1990 but the immigration policys were to0 tough and I never got to go. I evn applied under a US Immigration lottery but dint get picked. There was no internet in the late 80's and I went to the library and researched New Mexico and Albuquerque and decided it would be a super place to live and raise a family. My daughters were 8, 10 and 12 back then and I would have loved to go there. You American citizens dont realize how lucky you are compared to us in Canada to have so many diverse places to live in the Continental USA. Any where we choose to live in Canada we are going to be dealing with snow and cold.. Anyway stick to your dream and remember, "Life is a Journey, not a Destination !!! "

The climate here is probably the mildest one. We have our snow here, but it’s not around long especially in the city. I don’t have A/C at my house and don’t really need it…but I live in the mountains. In the city it’s a must. s/t

Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
What ya need to know barepaint??!! I was born and raised in a small village 30 miles north of Santa Fe called Chimayo, and still live here. Did you all have your hearts set on a certain place? I can give you info on Santa Fe and the Espanola Valley. Most people in the Valley work up at Los Alamos at the Lab, and make mega bucks, however, they are having security issues. Sounds to me like you might be leaning towards rural areas such as where I live. My wife and I work in Santa Fe, and commute together, and live in Chimayo on around 4 acres. We are about a 15 minute drive from the Carson National Forest, yet we live at about 5900 feet so it's still kinda mild as far as weather. Interesting thing about New Mexico is that there's not too much population here and it's mostly in Abq, so you don't have to go far to find complete solitud. Thousands of miles of highways perfect for cruising a motorcycle or classic truck!!! We're about 5 miles from a favorite local fishing hole where we take our boat, and about 40 minutes away from a bigger recreational lake so we have plenty of outdoor activities here. This winter has been the worst in 20 years, and still it's only about 2 months worth of colder weather, once you hit February, it starts getting real tolerable real fast. The main reasons we have so many wealthy people moving to Santa Fe from back east and Ca is because of the 0 average humidity, the scenic beauty, and the laybackness of NM, Oh and we have no tornado, earthquake, and hurricane dangers here. Also the rural areas of NM seem to be rough as far as crime because there's really no law enforcement, but if you mind your own, nobody bothers. The media seems to make it much worse than it really is.

72 step, you should mention "Santario de Chimayo" One of the most indescribable places I've ever been. The scenery in the area is also something you just have to see.

Re: Need Change Albequergue/Santa Fe NM
Sport truck, Yes the rafting should be killer this year. Also Elephant Butte Lake should recover some from all the past years of drought. Central and southern NM got record snowfall over the holidays.
PanelDeland, I live about a mile from the Santuario De Chimayo. All those surrounding foothills around the area are also known as "Badlands" that's where Chimayo get's it's name. The word Chimayo is derived from red flaking stone as the ancient anasazi's put it. Most of the movie The Hitcher was filmed within 3 miles of here. Definitely unlike any place on earth here in NM! Hitting 100+ mph in my 72 on some of these lonely NM highways is like nothing else!! Last edited by 72step; 02-11-2007 at 01:48 PM. |
