Question Distributor Position

If the distributor is installed 180 degrees out will the engine still run?

It will run perfectly....if you wire it 180 degrees out.

You can just pull you cap and plug wires off and start your firing order from where your Rotor is sitting and just adjust your distributor by twisting it. That is if you do not want to pull it again.. Just my .02

180 out on the old points distibs.....a quick "git er done" , was cut the square peg off the rotor & turn it 180. square pegs dont fit round holes too easy(not without some screamin anywho ) Hell, if you set that #1 piston tdc (compression stroke), you can dump that dist in any damn way you like......just start # wire where the rotor is pointed(allready mentioned above)....... L

It's not just the dizzy. You are better off to just roll the eng to #1 TDC, turn your dizzy shaft a little past where the rotor would match up with the cap's #1 wire, then lower it into the block and be sure it seats completely flush with the block. Don't forget that the dizzy shaft drives the oil pump! It will only seat correctly or 180 out.

that would be a little behind where it would line up with #1 on the cap
installing it spin's forward, removing and it spin's backward
