What did you get done? 02/11

I was off this weekend so I got a few things done around the house. I took my 06 Silverado to the local Lube and Wash. I dropped it off while they changed the oil and washed it. I walked to a nearby shopping center and bought a few things I need for some projects at the house. I got back in time for them to finish my truck.

I went and had my tires rotated, then headed home. I replaced a photocell in my exterior light so they are working again. Then I replaced all the door knobs and deadbolts in my house.

Even though the last set I bought were "Lifetime Guaranteed" I didn't keep the receipt. One of the deadbolts fell apart, and they had all tarnished.

Today I went to church, then shopping for a Ski jacket. I'm going to Copper Mountain for Spring Break and need something warm to wear.

Re: What did you get done? 02/11

Put on the spare tire carrier (not my belt) I bought from Crossy, replaced the collector and header gaskets. Couldn't remember whether collectors are 3 or 3.5. Chose wrong which gave me the opportunity to drive it with open headers for a few miles. Nothing much, but gratifying.

Re: What did you get done? 02/11

I had my dash fiberglassed and smoothed out to have painted to match my paint job. I had the speaker grilles smoothed out and since I have no a/c I'm gonna install the billet trim piece on the dash as well.

Help me out... my truck is going back to the paint booth soon to be finished and I was thinking of changing the color of the stripe while I was at it because I have grown to not be fond of the bright ass orange that he choose to do. I thought about changing it over to the 2006 Chevy HHR Sunburst Orange II Metallic. Right now it's a shade shifter. Orange to Lime Green Metallic. Or I thought about a cinnamon root beer / burnt bronze metallic color. I don't know.

Here's the HHR color

What do you think?

Here's what it looks like now

Re: What did you get done? 02/11

On saturday, I worked. My shop built a 70 C10 and did a frame off resto on it. It's now a 12 second truck and 13 on the 22's. My boss hates the truck, cuz so much has gone wrong, and the owner still hasn't paid him, so he finally let me take it out. I was driving it with him in the passenger seat, and was just cruising, when we hit a stop sign. He told me to really get on it, so I did just that. It's an amazing feeling to get a 13 second truck sideways coming off a stop sign, and to hear those straight pipes just rumbling.

Today I got some work done on my engine. I had to get the flex plate unbolted from the torque converter, but with the engine being seized up, I couldn't turn the flexplate. So after messing with it for two hours, I finally free'd it up and got the broken piston out. Here's the damage...

So I got the entire engine unbolted and ready to be pulled from the truck. My new crate motor should be here monday or tuesday, because shipping problems held it back from getting here last week. So I told everyone I would be able to update you with the progress of my motor swap, but it looks like that'll come on tuesday and wednesday.

My opinion is leave it. I like the HHR color too, but I thnk it would die out against the colors on your truck.

well regardless he's got to redo the stripe because the airbrush work is not consistent. so instead of going back with that orange i thought about changing it up because he's got to sand it down to redo it anyway.

Re: What did you get done? 02/11

I managed to get this week's 3,500 lb load of firewood out of the bed. Got the spark plugs changed on the wife's car.

Other than that, it's entirely too cold out to be doing much of anything. I mean. it's the warmest it's been in over a week and it's only 1*F out right now.

Re: What did you get done? 02/11

I burned up my Friday and saturday on a trip to Oklahoma City for my sister in law's birthday. Sunday was the first day I got to play with my new truck after picking it up thursday night...

I changed the oil, removed the brushgaurd mounting hardware and removed the step bars. The truck needs a really good detail job but I really hate to waste the time/money when it's still winter conditions out. I think I'll probably just half-arse clean it, then do a full detail come spring. So far I'm loving every second of it though, that 5.3 has some balls and the truck drives great.

Re: What did you get done? 02/11

I took it easy this weekend. It seems that between my thumb & back..... I've been struggling to keep up this week.

Saturday, I visited my buddy n2billet out @ the Stoked Out shop & checked out the progress on current projects. Some cool stuff for sure.

I felt better today so I finished up the front shock relocation on my 68 Beater. Now all it needs is a fresh coat of Krylon black & all the hardware tightened up for good & the front suspension upgrade is complete. I'm also ordering some Bilsteins this week to go along w/those front bags.

Next up: Installing the SBC/700r4 for keeps.....

Re: What did you get done? 02/11

Continued on my interior rebuild. This whole thing started as a stereo replacement, but has snowballed into a complete interior redo. Today I started reassembling the a/c ducting, put my dash cap on my old crappy dash pad, then had to lay out a grid on the dash cap and drill more holes for the passenger dash speaker since the ones predrilled didn't line up over the speaker. Turned out fine. I need to do some more work on the A/C vents, reassemble the dash pad trim and vents, then the dash pad will go back in. I also lined the lower half of the back of the cab with speaker cabinet type carpet. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. It covered the sound deadening mat and looks real slick. I'll try to post pics some time in the future.
