Hi all! I was browsing through the forums, looking at pictures... the usual Sunday night well spent. Anyway, I just have one question... is there anyone else with a factory steering wheel, either 67 or 68? The three spoke design one with the chrome cap. Here's mine:

I was just wondering, 'cause I don't see a lot of those on here. Mine is the original wheel and chrome horn cap (which is not in that bad condish). I thought about replacing it with a classic-style racing wheel, but the factory one is just too cool and old looking. I just wish it had a little more grip to it.

Where are all the other factory steering wheels that look like this? Can I see some pics please?

My GMC has the original wheel, I'm trying to decide if I'll keep it or not. My center cap is in good condition, and the part of it I really like. If someone made an aftermarket wheel that used the original center cap, I'd be all over it, I think it could look realy cool.

Mines gray and wraped on the rim with black leather.Looks just like that otherwise.

You know, I'm pretty sure LMC started making them again. They only come black, but your original cap should pop right on like it already does.

But you're talking about a "racing wheel" huh? I wonder if the cap would work on a 1st GEN Camaro wheel...

Lots of guys don't like the 17" wheel and opt for a 15" like summit has or GT. I am trying to keep mine, I just got a center cap like yours but need the rubber grommet that holds it.

I think LMC might carry the rubber grommit. I'm sure others do too, LMC magazine just has this useful exploded view that I have etched into my brain.

Well: It's mostly driver preference, but I prefer the '67/'68 wheel to the the '69/'72 wheel. Main thing is the feel of the width of the rim, the early wheel is narrow [in front profile] and I can rest it between the middle and 3rd fingers. Just a habit. Trying that with the stock wheel on my '71 Jimmy and I got sore knuckles from it. Also I like the 3 spokes and the fact that the junctions are roughly at 9 O'clock and 3 O'clock, and the bottom at 6 O'clock. That helps me sighting turns. The wide expanse between the 8 O'clock and 4 O'clock junctions on the later wheel is more vague and harder to line up straight, in my opinion.
I had a Grant Wheel [~ 14" dia.] on the Jimmy when I bought it. It sucked. Always coming loose, no leverage if the P/S malfunctioned. When I put the stock 17" wheel back on I was amazed at how much easier to steer it became.
For the record the '67/'68 wheel is 16.5" dia.

My 70 c10 came with a red 67-68 style wheel with a GMC horn cap. I plan to keep it, but fill the cracks and paint it.

Also, what is cool is the original Chevrolet horn caps say "Chevrolet Division", all the repro's I've seen simply have the bowtie.

Here's FarmTruk's...It's showing a LOT of wear, thus the multi-color appearance, and all three spokes are cracked at the hub base. The horn still works though.

I love the look of the stock wheel, but it's grip is soooo skinny, I'd love to switch to a nice 15" billet wheel. Oh well, maybe one of these days...

Original wheel on mine.

I have the stock, non-chrome button for it, but I haven't found a decent rubber ring for it.

You guys better get out of LMC and shop around...or you are going to lose a lot of $$$$$. Some items are fairly priced---now, but some are way off!!!
Compare to vnedors on this site. Then let us know what you found.

My truck had the original blue 67 wheel, but it was so badly cracked I swapped it for a black 69-72 style wheel I had. The next wheel will be a grant.

Do you sell the rubber ring for under the horn button on the 67/68? Or know of a vendor that does?

You guy's need to wrap your wheel's if you don't like the thin.Some of you may not be as uhhhmm "Experienced" as me but I can hardly remember a muscle car or truck from back in the day that didn't have a leather wrap on it.It makes the rim thicker and easier for me to hold.

Ya Know... Back in the day, I remember wrapping the rim of the wheel on my '67 Suburban -- a real beast with a 454 in front and manual steering -- with 1/2" 'donkey d!ck' ( foam pipe insulation) and taping it over with friction tape. My palms were black for a week, but I was happy slapping that wheel around.
