door handle
hey all. new here.
ive got a 1982 gmc sierra and the plastic part of the outside door handle broke off. Ive been to a couple of pick and pulls trying, but i cant seem to figure out how one removes just the little plastic button part. I have an easy time opening the door and can get as far as having access to the whole outer/inner door handle contraption, but cant seem to figure out this simple little task. feeling a bit dumb but, i bet one of you has a trcik. thanks a bunch. also, if anybody has a diesel and wants to know more about running on veggie oil, i have some insights and personal experience to share, ive been running veg and biodiesel in the two tanks respectively. its been going pretty good aside from a little bit of trouble with the fuel pump in cold weather. |

Re: door handle
you have to remove the handle to get the push button out.

Re: door handle
captkaos, are you saying theres no way to replace just the plastic part, that the whole handle has to be replaced?
if thats the case all i need to know is how to remove the handle from the rod that connects it to the locking mechanism. |

Re: door handle
if u can get your hand and maybe a flashlight into the door and look where the rod connects to the hinge. there should be a little metal clip that you slide over (i think slide the clip towards the inside of the cab... or maybe towards the front of the door..) anyway, this frees the rod. i know it sounds easy, but mine took a little bit of manipulating before i got them off.

The rod comes off by removing the clip securing it to the latch. you can lift up on the tab on the piece locking the rod down and move it back then you can pop the rod out.
