I'm trying to install power steering on my '68. Got the box and pump from a '72 last weekend, but the pulleys all line up on the same (first) groove. Pump, alt., crank and water pump. Can I run this all on the same belt??? I'm sure the Nova I got the brackets from only had one belt, but maybe it's been screwed with.

Any pics of the stock set up? Thanks!!

when i installed PS on my 67 i had to get another pulley to bolt onto the crank and run a separate power steering belt just for the pump and then the fan belt went to everything else...ill go get a picture if i can and post it...

mine has a 350 tho, not the 6

yeah you need the extra pulley that bolts to the balancer.... at least that's the way mine is on a stock 350.... your pump pulley should stick out further and require a matching pulley that bolts to the balancer....

if pulleys all line up, then I guess you should use a single belt...

Snowboundi just put a power steering pump on my 1970 GMC, 307... it has two belts. One for the alt and one for the powersteering...I hope it helps...

I have a 72 w/ a 250. I have all the brackets (I hope) and the pump and the box. Haven't installed them yet, and I'm worried about the same thing. When you get the answer to your question, please post it or PM or e-mail me.

I have a triple groove crank, with aftermarket air conditioning on the first groove, and the waterpump and alternator on the third groove. The p/s pump looks like it will go right where I have an idler pully right now. I don't know if it's okay to run all three on the same belt or not.

Did you have any trouble swapping the power box for the manual? It looks like the pitman arm is the hardest thing to deal with.

Thanks for the pics guys. The inline is all together different though, as the PS pump is up high and the alt. is under it. Different brackets and I'm assuming different pullies.

Primerib, I'll keep you posted on what I come up with. I called the parts store for a new hose and they said there's four different ones, so there must be other styles that I have not seen.

I'm wondering if I can add a double pully to the alt. and run it from the crank (outer groove) and waterpump (outer groove). Then I can use the inner groove to run the PS pump. Anyone ever see a 2 groove alternator pulley?
