hey yall new to the site been big into 4wheelin and decided to try and put somethin back together and look nice rather than destory another truck lol picked me up what i was told a 62 1/2ton chevy longbox 305/4speed for 200 bucks ran the vin on the door post and it came back a 63 but the cab front clip and frame are all rust free and only has a few small dents it runs like a champ with a resently rebiuld on the motor so im gettin a good startin platform. the plan at the moment will be to bag it and drop her to the ground with some 20's but sence i have no experiance makin things nice ill be lookin to yall for the tips of ther trade also dont know much about this year im hopin yall can help me with any questions i may have here is a link to my website for my truck http://community.webshots.com/user/loztboy7

thanks yall for the welcome lol not really sure ti tell ya the truth these are the numbers i got of the drivers door piller 3c1540126847 maybe it was a 62 and the cab was rusted out so they stuck a 63 cab on it? im not all sure. on the note that is is a 62 anyone know where i can get a drivers side light cover deal only came with one also is there any other places to get parts other than LMC ?

I usually go through brotherstrucks.com for most of my parts. Other times I've gone through lmc but have heard not too good of stuff about them so I switched to doin brothers recently. I am finishin my truck w/ the z notch and a bodydrop this summer, so just post up in suspension and such if you got problems, seems lots of people are postin good info on there.

cool thanks for the info i know what the c notch is but have only been able to find 1 thing on the z notch how does that work and what is the point? also if you bag it to lay frame why body drop it wouldnt you catch the body on the ground also? any info about bags and what not is awsome i know how to lift um just dont know how so slam them tryin to catchon and learn everything i can

Welcome to the forum.
From the pics, the grille is definately a '62 chevy grille, but the bolts on the front bumber are spaced further apart than on a '60-'62 frame. This tells me it's definately a '63 fram.

if anyone knows of any other ways or add on, feel free to, but from my understanding, a z notch u cut the frame at the firewall or a little bit infront of it and lift it up. Doing this lifts it so that the frame under the cab is the lowest point because normally the front crossmember sits lower, so it tucks that up into the wheelwell out of the way of the ground. also doing a bodydrop will make the body lay on the ground, but for me, I'm wanting to see how low I can make the truck and it's my test subject since eventually I'd like to open up a fab shop after I finish w/ college, so its the sort of deal where its the test dummy to learn all the different stuff and gain experience on before I cut anyone else's car or truck.
I'm the opposite of you, I know how 2 slam em, but don't know much about doin lifts. If you got any questions, lemme know

ah right on thats what i thought the z notch was just wanted to make sure also i have seen on some sites that people swap the front crossmember of there 62's to a 63 or newer not sure why but from what i hear i got me a 63 frame so i should be clear is there a frame with for the 63 so i could check it to make sure before it's time to order parts? i look forward to workin with yall and makin my truck come along i will post progress pics as she goes right now i have the interior stripped and am paintin the dash ashtray glovebox and door panels along with the rest of the interior nothin fancy i like the flat look so exterior will probly be flat black or satin black along with the interior with flat white accents glovebox and ashtray and stuff

60-62 trucks had torsion bars.. Look under your truck and see if you have coil springs or torsion bars.. They started using coils in 63...

I'd say your good w/ the coils front and rear, same as mine was. I wouldn't swap frontends unless you find a rack and pinion setup, and want that, otherwise I'd just z that one and swap out the stuff for a 5 lug if you want and call it a day.

im gonna start with c notchin the rear and not sure about the z notch yet how low can i get it without doin it?

this is the "c" notch with 4" drop springs...

that's how low I was, was sitting on the frame w/ no notch and airbags in the stock spring location. Also had no z notch and was sitting on the front lower control arms in that pic.

ok cool so i will need the big 10in c notch to set the ass endon the ground and the z notch is a must to lay the front also cool guys thanks for that im gonna start lookin for some picks and how to's and trya nad start the rear and then the front. is there any body mods that need to take place in order to z notch the front?

You'll need to ditch the front inner fenders or at least redo the top of them and then of course if you get rid of the inner fenders there's the fun of redoing the hood mounts.
Check out streetsourcemag.com they have a ton of owner profiles w/ pics and you can search by vehicle and years, so any of the c10's up to 72 or so they have a really similar suspension so I would watch pics there for some advice on how people did their back end.
