Sandpaper retread tires
Does anyone know if you can buy sandpaper retread tires anymore? We have had a camp-only truck for 14 years, and have always run the sandpaper retreads on it. I'm sure you can't buy them over the counter for safety reasons, but can you get them anymore, period? I'd sure like to find another set.

Re: Sandpaper retread tires
Sandpaper retreads? Never heard of that. What is the sand paper part? do they put stuff in the new tread before bonding to the old tire shell?
Only thing I've heard close to that is from Hi-Tec Retreading in Wyoming. They add this stuff called green diamonds as a traction additive.

Re: Sandpaper retread tires
I'm not sure if it's a slang term, like "Dum Dum" for seam sealer, but the tire treads actually feel like 80 grit sandpaper. I'm not sure how they are made but the rubber is VERY soft, and the grit is embedded in the rubber. If you were to drive them on dry pavement, you'd chew through them in probably 5000 miles, so they are strictly offroad. I'll have to look at that Green Diamonds stuff.

Re: Sandpaper retread tires
Look in the back of Four Wheeler magazine or 4Wheel & offroad. They usually advertise in both.
