86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
Hey guys
My 86 K10 pulls to the right while braking hard. I don't notice it normally, but I am very easy on my brakes. It has newer calipers, pads, and machined rotors on the front It's not something I am terribly scared about, more of an annoyence..... I am wondering if it is the MC, or the proportioning valve.....being the lines look good, and I am not loosing any fluid at all Thanks Cameron |

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
could be alot of things but if the calipers are both good and the pads are wearing evenly id also check to make sure that the wheel bearings are good then the proportioning valve

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
Could be a brake hose collapsing internally causing a restriction in fluid flow to one side, Have seen that a couple times.

I strongly agree with RestroRob. I ran into the same thing a few years back w/ my 83. If that's what it is, expect it to get worse.

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
Yeah it sounds like a brake hose issue i had a '92 S10 that did that and it was a bad hose on the drivers side.
If you replace the hoses i'd go with a set of Earls SS Braided ones i'v got them on my '87 and it's been at least 10 yr's now and no problems yet and they give a much firmer pedle cuz theres no hose flex under braking pressure. Good luck |

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
Check or replace the front brake hoses, would be my vote. I have had that happen on a couple trucks.

My 84 does same thing. because of advice from all of you will be replacing my brake hoses soon also. seems like a common problem with these trucks.

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
I had a weird left-then-right-then straight thing a few years ago myself. New front hoses and calipers solved it. I believe the calipers were shot and I ran throught pads more quickly than I shouldv'e been.
Rebuilt calipers were $15 each at NAPA and new hoses ran about $30 per side. It's been fine ever since. -Kevin 1986 C10 Suburban Silverado

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
I had that trouble with mine too until I replaced the calipers.

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
I have had the brake hose and the caliper cause this before.

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
I vote new brake hoses. As stated above they are probably internally coming apart.

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
Had it happen on my '69 Z/28. Pulls hard to the right on braking; many have told me its a front hose, but its one of those "round to it" things. With 37" of fresh snow....brakes on a summer cruiser isn't really priority 1.
I respectfully disagree with 87 Stepper on the hoses. I'd just pick up OEM replacement rubber hoses from a parts store. I've always thought that SS lines were more for high-performance, heavy duty braking systems where you really need to feel the pedal, and expansion cannot be tolerated, like racing. In a 20 year old 4x4 truck...I'd save my money and just get the rubber lines and worry about it again in another 20 years. Last edited by VTKidder; 02-15-2007 at 02:21 PM. |

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
Well I will just replace both front hoses, and I will just be getting the standard rubber hoses from our Jobber, and put them on at the shop where it's warm, and I have a hoist.....So far everything including belts, and hoses have been original on this truck, so I would assume the front flex lines are aswell, 21 years is old enough to retire them, they've done there job well

Re: 86 K10, pulls right under hard braking
Warm, good. Cold, bad. Good for you for having a heated shop. Mine were a real bear. They rusted on- had to heat-em up to get them off. Careful around the gas lines on pass. side.
