it works like a champ! If anyone here has issues with their starter acting up when hot (nothing happens when you turn the key) than this may be the answer! I searched thru all the posts and finally decided on getting one. I have to say it has made a world of difference! Used to be I would drive for 30 mins on the hiway then shut the truck off for 5-10 mins then try to start and absoutely nothing would happen. Even when cold there was about a half to 1 second delay from turning the key to when the starter would engage. Now there is absoutely NO delay when I turn the key! Thats never happened before. Heres a couple of pics of the install. Yes I know the other hot cable should be red but the parts store didn't have a red one with the proper ends. this is a simple install. If I can do it...anyone can!

Thats the same style of solenoid that furd used for years. Does work a lot better than the starter mounted as far as heat problems. Also easier to bypass with a good insulated screw driver

Been doing that for over 25 years. There was an actual bulletin from GM for installation of those for the school busses I used to work on that had the starter 'hot soak' problem

I also went to the local parts store and bought 2 seperate lengths of cable for about 8 dollars each. Grand total for upgrade: Around $40 Not bad for peace of mind!

Hot start problems are an old problem with the GM engines. Heat soak in the starter is the problem. Back in the 60's through 70's we took every one to a local starter/alternator shop and had them modified by this older German guy. He really knew his stuff. According to him there were 2 types of GM starters back then. A small block starter and a big block starter. The difference between them was a reg starter had 2 fields and 2 shunts which worked ok when new but heat took it's toll and eventually it gave probs. The other has 4 fields and was a much , much stronger starter. He called it the big block starter. In all those years we never never had one of his beefed up starters give trouble on either a small block or big block application. We also never had to use this ford solenoid mod either. Check with your local starter/alternator shop and see if they've done this as I remember it didn't cost any more than a standard starter rebuild and you maintain the stock wiring and underhood look.
