what is SWB?

I have seen short wheel base- which is what I thought, but I am seeing more and more 'short wide bed'. That would imply to me that there must be a short NARROW bed then, too?

and as long as I am asking....

Does a short bed truck have a shorter wheelbase? Is the distance between the wheels the same and they just chopped of the back end of the frame so the wheels are still the same distance apart?

Is the Longhorn a longer wheelbase than a 'standard' long bed? Are the wheels farther apart?

Do fleetside and stepside have the same measurements if they are both shorties?

This should give me something to read over the next few nights!

Thanks in advance for your answers....

Re: what is SWB?

SWB = Short Wheel Base or a short bed body style

Some in the south seem to refer to it as Short Wide Bed...

Stepside and Fleetside beds have the same outer dimensions, but different dimensions 'inside' the bed

Re: what is SWB?

swb is short wheel base, wide would be fleet, narrow would be step

swb has shorter wheel base, wheels are closer together

To add to this,
SWB has a 6 1/2 foot bed.
LWB has an 8 foot bed
Longhorn has an 8 1/2 foot bed
One ton stepsides have a 9 foot bed.
*All measurements are inside dimentions*
The longhorn, and one ton stepside, are both on the same 133 inch wheel base frame.
Fleet sides, and step side beds are installed on the same frames... the frame part number for one model, is the same part number for the other model... assuming the wheel base is the same naturally.

Re: what is SWB?

Maybe we could have a glossary page with all the abbreviations listed. Then we would need a page to direct people to it and how to use it.

Re: what is SWB?

It just means both. Why can`t we accept that.Like I said before, most call it a short wheelbase. But,wheelbase is one word,so technically incorrect. What do they call those footlongs in everyone`s area, subs, hoagies, grinders? It`s all the same.
I thought it meant standard wheelbase.lol

I agree! I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what "ttt" meant. I felt dumb after it clicked.

Re: what is SWB?

I think most commonly refers to short wide bed.
SWB - short wide bed
LWB - long wide bed
Short step, long step, longhorn.

the saga continues ...

It means-"SHORT WHEEL BASE".Any repair manual will tell you the same thing-car(2dr,4dr,or wagon) or truck.

Re: what is SWB?

I've always been told:
SWB=Short Wide Bed
LWB=Long Wide Bed

The wheelbase was implied. I had never even heard of a longhorn before this site.

Re: what is SWB?

Here is what I grew up with and still see in the local paper in my hometown.

SWB = Short Wide Box (Fleet)
SNB = Short Narrow Box (Stepside)
LWB = Long Wide Box (Fleet)
LNB = Long Narrow Box (Stepside)

Now my hometown is also where the "F**ked Over Rebuilt Dodge" (better known as F*rd) to Chevy ratio is 20:1. So maybe F*rd has different meaning than Chevy.

Re: what is SWB?

When we speak,do any of us say swb, anyway?I never would.I say short fleet/long fleet.(I aggreviate Fleetside).I never refer to the wheelbase, just the bed.It can be assumed that the wheelbase would match the bed.

What about "slickside", I heard an older guy call it that once, cracked me up.

Go look up what SWB and LWB means in GM literature & service documentation.

Hint: It has nothing to do with the style of bed.

Re: what is SWB?

Food for thought:
*MC:motorcycle or master of ceremonies?
*AC:air-conditioning or alternating current?
*MO:money order,motive(detective talk),or Missouri?
*PO:post office or previous owner?
*NOS:new old stock or nitros oxide?
*PBJ:peanut butter jelly or probation before judgement?
*DMF:dual mass flywheel or the guy that can up with them?
*NA:naturally aspired,narcotics anonymous,or North America?
*GA:Georgia or gauge?
*SS:stainless steel,super sport,secret service(ours of Hitler`s boys)?
*MD:medical doctor or Maryland?
*DD:daily driver or large t-ts?
Ok,none of those are in a related subject.Except,SS grille.
Here`s some that are related:
*FWD:four wheel drive or front wheel drive(or forward). Before all these front wheel drives parts were listed as fwd for four wheel drive.
*CO:Commanding officer or consciencious objector?Both militarie abbreviations.Then there`s Colorado.

Abbreviations can have multiple meanings. It`s OK.
