Where's your tach?

I have an AutoGuage 3 3/8" tach that I would like to put in my 86, but I can't figure out where to put it. I don't want to put it on top of the dash. The only place I can see it might work would be on the column in front of the shifter. Any ideas?

Re: Where's your tach?

That is where I have mine. Don't really like it there, but like you said there is not another place. Don't want to put holes on the dash pad.

Hey swervin nice ! Is that a factory tach cluster and what's the scoop on the shift indicator lights ?

I'm not familiar with the later trucks since mine is a 74.

Re: Where's your tach?

Depends on what you are using the tach for . Mine are factory in the dash on my 77 and my 78 . If you are just using it for reference mount it on the bottom of the dash looking up or near the roof on the driver a pillar . If you need to see it for shifting , mount it where you dont have to take your eyes off the road too bad . I seen one that the owner built a bracket that uses the sun visor mounting point . It wa cool and no extra holes were required . Frank

Mine is mounted on the dash and my shift light is mounted around the steering column on the 87 short wide.

Re: Where's your tach?

I have not mounted mine yet but was thinking i will go were the red scribble is. Mine is a Sun pro II 3 inch. I tried mounting it on the colum but with having a tilt and auto it was just too much of a pain. To me down below is uslesss. True i don't really need it but thik it would be nice to have. IS there another way of mounting it with out drilling my dash? Also i have heard of the piller idea but still don't get it . anyways thanks

Re: Where's your tach?

No it's not a factory tach cluster.

http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...s_recessed.htm

The article is from long ago. I have updated things since I wrote it. The shift indicator lights were moved from top center. They are so I can have a high beam, park brake and choke indicator lights. I added the shift light and the two gauges where the radio was, plus the billet bezel.

Re: Where's your tach?

I mounted mine and the son's on the left front pillar, just above the dash. (No Holes in the dash and I used the factory screw hole), so it could be removed and look clean. The tach is mounted to a piece of aluminum strapping that is tapered to follow the windshield rubber to hold it in place. It works well and the tach is right below eye level and easy to see.

Re: Where's your tach?

Peiceparts, you have mentioned this before and i think this is the way i am going to do mine. could you provide a picture of the setup or maybe a drawing? Also what tach are you running? I would really like to do the autometers but don't have the money right now. And i have a tach waiting to be hooked up.

thanks
