heater location

My 63 c10 has the heater core in the cab and has the cutouts in the firewall blocked off. My 66 c10 has the heater core under the hood. Why 2 different locations? Thanks, Jeff.

Re: heater location

19GMC63- Thanks, seems kind of backwards, the in cab looks more modern to me. Didn't most cores end up in-cab?

Re: heater location

Hi there, GM offered two different styles of heater in this series of trucks. The model that has the core and fan inside the cab is the recirculating or ecomony type, and uses only two of the slide levers on the dash. The version with the core and fan on the engine side of the firewall is the deluxe, or fresh air type, and uses all four of the heater slide switches.

On the 60-63 series the inside ducting is the same for either type (from what I've experienced). Since I have a 1960, I'm not as familiar with the 64-66 flavor although I believe the firewall and mounting are different from 60-63. Full specifications for both types are shown in the GM service manual which is available as a reprint.
